A variety of newspapers reported the claims about chalk writing (and etc.) before the Eddowes murder, so I don't know that any particular one stands out there. Based upon the facial mutilations on Eddowes matching an illustration of Beadmore's facial mutilations that ran in the Illustrated |Police News that's probably the best bet. But then these details were widely discussed person to person as well, so Jack could have picked up all these various stories to emulate without having read a paper himself.

The better-than-average Peabody lodging houses stocked several newspapers, including the Times, which were available to read in the large common room. Another poster provided a hetfy contemporous article on the topic pre-crash, and I'd be interested to read it again.
