        Hi again

Here in Baltimore we have McHenry Beer, inspired by Fort McHenry whose defense against the British Royal Navy on September 13-14, 1814 inspired Francis Scott Key to write "The Star-Spangled Banner" and Raven Lager, named for Edgar Allan Poe's most famous poem.

At RipperCon, I will be giving a talk on the mystery of Poe's final days here in Baltimore, and during the four-hour bus tour on Sunday we will be visiting his grave and house and other sites connected to him. See our website RipperCon.com for complete details about the weekend. Anyone interested should book soon. Space limited!

        Best regards

        Chris

All of B.W. Beer Works stuff is named after Poe writings... All are also depressingly low ABV and depressingly mediocre. Drinkable but mediocre.
I’m often irrelevant. It confuses people.

Sadly, because of my flight schedule I wont be able to do the Poe tour Sunday, but I am so looking forward to the rest of the weekend....still wanna hear from those planning to attend....who the hell am I gonna sit with at the banquet haha...I swear I'm not "that" scary a person....just a bit of a giant..plus I was talking to Mike Hawley a bit ( we are from the same area) and folks....his Tumblety talk is going to be amazing!!! He wouldn't give me any spoilers though....and come on MARTIN FIDO folks....that alone is worth the trip!!! And lets face it, for us Yanks anyway...this may be the last chance we get for an American conference...for a while anyway....and April in Baltimore should be beautiful...perfect weather...I have also heard rumors that some of our friends across the pond will be coming over for this.....so we need to represent...it's our patriotic duty after all.....( what the hell, thought I'd try the ole' American pride thing...ya know )..

Plus want to find out if anyone attending is a cigar smoker ( like myself) so I would bring a few extras with me....something wonderfully social about cigars after all....

Hope to hear from more people attending soon..

                Hi Steadmund

We have a number of signups from people who are not members here but who have found out about the conference through such means as our RipperCon.com website, the RipperCon Facebook page, or our Twitter account, as well as my personal Facebook page. We have your good self who is coming from Buffalo, several people from Pennsylvania and Maryland, others from North Carolina, Massachusetts, Alabama, Chicago, and California, as well as from the UK and Germany. I have heard from a number of additional people who have expressed interest in the event but who have not yet registered -- either people from Stateside or the UK. Adam Went from Australia has said he will come but is waiting for his passport.

I hope this helps Steadmund. As for cigar smokers unless we can cajole Christian Jaud and Robert McLaughlin here, I am unsure about the others in attendance. I have been known to smoke a small cigar in the past but gave up smoking when I reached age 65.

                Best regards

                Chris

Perhaps you can drink a toast with this, "to the Glory that was Greece, and the Grandeur that was Rome".

Works well and bonus points for generally less read Poe references but you could stay on the beers namesakes for many of them.
Pendulum- "In the deepest slumber-no! In delirium-no! In a swoon-no! In death-no! even in the grave all is not lost."
Tell Tale- "They who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night"
The Cask- "A million candles have burned themselves out. Still I read on." Annabell Lee White- "The moon never beams without bringing dreams"
The Raven Special- "Wondering, fearing, doubting"
I’m often irrelevant. It confuses people.

If you take a Poe fancier who is a connaseur of fine beers, and he drinks one of these, he can spit it out, and say, "For the love of God, Montressor!!"

I've always thought that I would have The Conqueror Worm on my tombstone.

And the the angels, all pallid and wan
                          Uprising, unveiling affirm
That the play is the tragedy "Man"
And the hero, The Conqueror Worm.

I always thought it was particularly apt for a Jewish theater brat with a mood disorder.

I read a book once where there was a Poe themed bar and in order to get a drink you had to answer the question "How is a raven like a writing desk?"
