Sad news indeed... I had the pleasure of meeting him once, he was a really nice guy ( it was not at a convention or anything.. just kind of a fluke run in)..I admit I am not a fan of all of his work, But the 1st Nightmare on Elm Street is a masterpiece ( don't like any of the sequels or remakes....except New Nightmare was kind of fun) Serpent and the Rainbow was great, The Hills Have Eyes ( again the original) another great film... And he did make what may be the most disturbing film ever released to general release theaters ever in the US, Last House on the Left ( again the original.. not the remake) a VERY VERY hard film to watch.. inspired by the Bergman film Virgin Spring (also hard to watch, bit nothing like Last House on the Left!!)
