    Hello and welcome!

It might surprise you how utterly addictive this place is. I'm well on my way to 500 posts already. Each one more worthless than the last!

      Welcome, PCDunn.

I've read some of your posts and am pleased to see you're both thoughtful and intelligent.

Unfortunately, neither of those fine attributes will get you anywhere in life, nor out of tunnel digging. Steady, please be so kind as to hand the gent a spoon.

      - Pssst! Hey Steady - At least we've got one more Yank on our side; that means there's at least 3 of us now, so the Jerries are doomed! Can you rustle up some Champagne for the Victory Party?

      Carry on,

Thank you for the welcome, GUT.

About that nickname, though... I think I have read what it means in Aussie-land, and I'm not so sure it's a compliment...

Thank you, Archaic, you're particularly perceptive yourself!

"Gent"?? My disguise must be working better than I thought... Still, tunnel digging is better than shoveling snow (which I was doing yesterday), so I'm happy to help out with digging or dirt disposal.... For the record, though, I dislike black jelly beans....

                  Hi Pat.

Oops, looks like your disguise was too good! Er, Steady, please hand the lady a spoon...

But actually Pat , seeing as your a smart dame with a knack for disguise like me, you might want to get into special ops/spy biz. Dangerous, but it does get you out of grubby tunnel digging.

                  See ya,

                    Hello, Archaic,

Yes, you've hit on another of my interests! Besides sci-fi, paranormal, Sherlock Holmes, and Victoriana, to say nothing of English and American literature, I am also into espionage fact and fiction.
I grew up playing spy games inspired by "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.", so I dare say I've already been trained as a spy... I'll put in my request for a transfer at once!

                      G'day Dunny

When I was a nipper the highest compliment you could give anyone was a nick-name. Though it seems less common now.

Why do you think I go by GUT, I've had the name since I was about 4 years old.

My Brother was Gut and all his mates called me Little Gut, when started High School one of the guys new my Bro and chrstened me gut's brother, it quickly shortened to Gut, I still have school mates who struggle to remember my name.

Hi Geoff...consider yourself lucky...I still have schoolmates who struggle to remember ME...but that worries me less than the fact I can't remember THEM either...perhaps it goes with our age...

                          G'day Dave

As our 20 year reunion approached [so this was a far while ago now] the organisers were trying to track down one of my good mates.

I said that I knew his mum pretty well, so rang her and got his number.

I rang hm, his partner answered the phone and I told her who I was, I heard her call out to him and tell him who it was in the back ground heard:

"I didn't go to school with no Geoff ... **** it must be Gut."

Now another 20 plus years on he still has trouble saying Geoff, it's always Gut.

Well, GUT, that's a good explanation of nicknames. And I think GUT is rather a menacing name for a Ripperologist. Good thing you don't spell your first name with a "J"-- you'd have been stuck with "JUT"!!

Pat D. ( who had an uncle who persisted in calling me "Pattycake" well into my teens-- thank goodness it was only among the family!)

I don't need a teammate to beat the Aussies!!!! (Silver....silver you say GUT.. that's it.. my training starts now...ok.. it never stopped damn you little bits of delicious!!!!)

By the way PCdunn… your disguise never fooled me…and if you ever need gifts like the other gals say the word… or hey feel free to come along on the next escape.. I can steal a motorcycle with a sidecar next time….but again.. your are an AMERICAN…..no need to dig!!!

Hello, Steadmund, and thanks awfully about the digging bit, old chap. Yes, a typical hybrid American (my mother's ancestors have some connection to the Mayflower ship, while my father's people came here from Ireland during the Famine Years), so I've got escapism in my blood. Possibly an elusive Native American ancestor, as well.

I may need to stay here for a while, having just had another post of mine dissected by Fisherman in the Lechmere/hook thread. Give me that baseball so I can go bounce it off the cooler wall, pondering semantics of blood flow, and how someone can kneel over a body while also waiting in the street for another passerby to come up to him.
