  • Virat Kohli, OUT!

Wow. The cricket pages around the world are filling up with tear-jerkers over Virat Kohli's retirement, And I have to say, he was absolute box-office when he was at his peak. Not only was it showtime when he came out to bat, it was also showtime when he was in the field. He was the mosquito in your ear, the sheet of sandpaper in your undies. In short, he was a right pest to the batsmen he was fielding against. Some people didn't like him, called him motor-mouth (which he was, let's be honest) but I never thought he took it too far. He was a thoroughbred cricketer, a blood-stained warrior the likes of which see maybe only once or twice a generation. It's a shame for his fans in the UK that he couldn't make one more trip this summer for the 5-Test series. Cricket, and I of course, will miss him.

Get a load of this from Australian legend Gregg Chappel:

"Virat Kohli's retirement from Test cricket marks the end of a thunderous era - a reign forged in grit, fire, and audacity. It closes the chapter on the most transformative figure in Indian cricket since Sachin Tendulkar; perhaps Kohli even eclipses him in terms of cultural influence and psychological impact on India's cricketing identity.

Kohli, the incandescent heart of Indian cricket for over a decade, did not just score runs. He redefined expectations, challenged conventions, and symbolised the self-assured, unapologetic India of the 21st century. His departure leaves not only a statistical void but a seismic shift in energy - for there has never been another quite like him."

    Cheers.

Well said Svensson. A special cricketer and winner. Like Botham, like Warne…he made things happen. Believe me, the England team will now be thinking that their chances of winning the upcoming series against India have just increased.

Tremendous player, competitor and captain. Instrumental in massively improving the fitness of his Test side and encouraging the development of a high quality bowling attack utilising pace and spin. Also merits a lot of praise for his continuing promotion of Test cricket in a country often too content to overdose on the IPL.

Very good point OneRound. I tend to think that for a fair few people in authority in the cricket world Test cricket has become a bit of an inconvenience.
