    • Bloody fireworks!!!

They used to be a treat for kids on November 5th (and a nightmare for dogs) but now they’re just an all year round irritant.

      • Self check out machines in grocery stores or other stores. Hate 'em. I find them a pain to use and they frequently don't work. It also takes jobs away from actual persons. I always skip them on principal alone.

Totally agree c.d. I always end up standing around waiting for an assistant because the stupid machine is asking for some kind of verification for some entirely random item.

It also pisses me off when there are about 8 checkouts but only 4 or 5 are manned leaving queues half way up the aisles.
          Regards

Yeah, like they said in Jurrasic Park - just because you can do something doesn't mean it is a good idea. That holds true for so much tech crap.

                • And people who stroll along in a car park even though there’s a car behind them trying to pass. A lot of people these days seem unaware that other people exist.

                  • Had a hassle a little while ago at the grocery store. Bought some beer and the checkout clerk asked for an I.D. Since I am clearly over 21 I find that annoying but can understand why they do it. They are trained that way because the store can lose their liquor license if they sell to anyone under age. Anyway, I produced it and was told it was expired and their computer system would not accept it. I said it has my birth date and photo on it clearly showing I am over 21. Gave me some grief but finally accepted it. Looking on Google it appears that technically it is not a valid I.D. so they were within their rights. Still annoying as hell though.

                    • Interesting discussion on Reddit with a lot of people weighing in on self checkout. Seems it is a love or hate thing with so many people.

That’s annoying. There are times when there should be a level of judgment used but it seems that we are afraid of this these days. Then again the young are so tech-dependant that judgment is becoming a thing of the past. I’d have felt like saying “check this beard, it’s real, as are the grey hairs in it. Now let me tell you what the 1970’s were like….we had people actually thinking for themselves.”

                        • The debate on Reddit regarding self check out seem to be divided into two camps with those favoring self checkout on the younger side of the spectrum. They mock older people for refusing to learn new technology and being stuck in their ways. Older people respond by saying well why should I have to learn new technology just so I can interact with some effing machine? Just hire more cashiers. Problem solved.

By the way, if you are not familiar with Reddit I find it highly entertaining. It seems that there is no question or situation that has not been discussed on the Reddit forums. I never knew that trash cans in bathrooms (with lids) were so highly thought of by women (single men take notice) nor did I realize how the great wash cloth debate would divide the country. It seems disagreeing as to using a wash cloth is akin to insulting someone's Mother.

You can peruse the forums without joining. I guess you just need to join to voice your opinion.

                            Totally agree!

Personally I quite like a firework display, but the trauma that it causes animals is simply not worth it.

I really dislike infringements on personal liberties, but I wish they would limit it to just a couple of hours on Bonfire Night and Hogmanay.

Here they often let off fireworks in broad daylight.

                            What's the point of that?

                              Yeah, me too!

I also think it's rubbish for elderly people who relied on the social interaction that a trip to the shops provided.

Plus for my part if I'm doing a supermarket shop, odds are on I'll be stocking up on booze so a worker always has to come over anyway to verify that I'm over 18.

                              Hate em!

What on earth is the great wash cloth debate c.d.?

Old school cloth versus plastic exfoliator?
