Ella was my dad’s favourite. He saw her in his younger days (Louis Armstrong too)

And I’d give Louis Armstrong a mention too.

Agreed, Herlock. He certainly was an influential singer, and I like the distinctiveness of his singing too.

I’d hazard a guess John that this is the first time that Kate Bush and John Tardy have ever been on the same list.

                    Hi John,

I guess here you are meaning Axl Rose back in his hey day?

G n Roses performance at Glastonbury last year was such a disappointment.

Axl's voice was clearly wrecked and he sounded terrible.

Bruce Dickinson would def make my list though.

I was at Maiden's Future Past tour last year.

It was amazing and Bruce was still well able to belt out the classics whilst running around the stage.

                    Great gig!

                      Hi Ms D,

Yeah Axl sounded really ropey at Glastonbury but a mate of mine saw him with AC/DC a couple of years before and said that he sounded pretty good. So it looks like his voice might have gone downhill fairly recently and suddenly (unless my mate was being a bit too uncritical) He’s always had a strange kind of voice which, for me, always made him a prime candidate for having vocal issues as many rock/metal singers do as they get older. The saddest example for me personally is hearing David Coverdale sing live. I love DC and last saw him with Whitesnake in 2004 and he was still sounding great. Now sadly he’s the worst singer in the band. Bruce still sounds great, even after throat cancer!. Ian Gillan sounds pretty good for 78 although he can’t shatter glass these days. Robert Plant sounds good although he’s adapted his voice to suit the music. Paul Rodgers is just a freak of nature, still sounding amazing.

Perhaps Axl had just been overindulging a bit the night before their set at Glastonbury.

He does have previous for that!

Twice I have had tickets to see GnR and twice they have cancelled.

I think once Axl's "nervous exhaustion" was given as the reason, but everyone knew exactly what that meant!

He did used to do the kind of vocal acrobatics that would likely knacker your voice in later life, so that could be it too.

Agree Robert Plant still sounds great.

I'm not familiar with Paul Rodgers.

                        Will check him out.....

                              Hi Scott,

Are you old enough to remember Mrs. Miller?

                              She's right up there.

Yes, RJ. She was a regular on the Smothers Brothers show in the 1960s.
