Hard to believe but Yoko Ono is now 91.

          Hi c.d.

I'd have to agree regarding Eva Cassidy. My favourite is Fields of Gold from her Songbird album.

The new orchestral Eva Cassidy album I CAN ONLY BE ME is released 3rd March 2023 https://evacassidy.lnk.to/ICanOnlyBeMe

She's done it again! Matt Monro was going to be my banker as a great singer overlooked by others here. Besides me and Caz, he was very highly rated by Frank Sinatra. Rare for a singer to be able to convey such emotion with so clear a voice.

Good as well to see a considered shout for Dusty.

              Best regards,

A cracking thread once more, Herlock. Many thanks again.

Here's another 20 whom I don't think have been mentioned so far with an occasional comment thrown in. Heavily influenced by growing up in the '60s and '70s with apologies for at times going slightly off topic by including singers of favourite songs and favourite entertainers who sang.

Judith Durham - always an angelic voice and in perfect harmony fronting The Seekers.

Crispian St. Peters - if remembered at all today, probably for the catchy ''The Pied Piper'' although I prefer the haunting melody of ''You Were on My Mind''. Let down by his own poor self-promotion.

                  Louis Armstrong

                  Nina Semone

Feargal Sharkey - of The Undertones.

                  Chris Farlowe

                  Peter Sarstedt

                  Petula Clark

                  Don McLean

                  Gene Pitney

Joe Strummer - of The Clash.

                  Judy Garland

                  Cat Stevens

Ian Hunter - of Mott The Hoople.

                  Bonnie Tyler

                  Simon & Garfunkel

Gerry Marsden - saw him and his Pacemakers at the Lakeside Country Club, former home of the World Darts tournament, many years ago. Wonderful evening full of great music with touches of lovely self deprecating humour from the man himself.

                  Andy Williams

Ken Dodd - the best Value For Money entertainer ever whose shows always overran and sometimes into the early hours. His humour was interspersed with songs and it may be a surprise that he had eighteen single records that reached the UK Top 40 including ''Tears'' which was number 1 for five weeks in 1965. His signature song ''Happiness'' could be relied upon to bring a smile to his audience.

Florence Welch - of Florence and the Machine. I can't comment much on her music but she gave me the most lovely smile as I held a door open for her in the members' pavilion of the Oval cricket ground.

                  Best wishes,
                  OneRound

                    Hi OneRound,

Worthy of a place on any favourite singers list.

Some great choices by all. Many of them could easily have made it onto my own list. Steve Marriott, Roy Orbison, Howling Wolf, Roger Daltrey…..loads of great singers of all genre’s.

Koko Taylor, the Queen of the Blues. Her voice sounded like she drank a fifth of whiskey daily, smoked five packs of camels and gargled with old razor blades. But good Lord, could she sing the blues.

Love her CD Live from Chicago - An Audience with the Queen. The band backing her up on this one is absolutely kickin' butt.

See if you can listen to Wang Dang Doodle and not start stamping your feet.

And of course you have to give a shout out to Joe Cocker if just for his performance of With a Little Help from My Friends at Woodstock.

A singer who ‘lived’ every song. I’ve often wondered what a duet would have sounded like with him and Janis Joplin? The audience would’ve been drained after just one song.

I’m listening to that Koko Taylor live album on Spotify now.
