Buckle up: The federal Jan. 6 indictment might be around the corner
Goes through the possible charges for ex-President Trump regarding the scheme to submit fake electors, "find" extra votes in certain states to swing the vote in his favor, and incitement of the Jan. 6 insurrection.
An indictment may be as soon as August.Pat D. https://forum.casebook.org/core/imag...rt/reading.gif

Reich puts the facts out, and is worth reading or following.
I read a couple of recent articles by others that offered some bright spots in the matter of Trump's leading the Republican pack.
One noted that judges just keep rejecting the Trump legal team's tactics to have charges in his various trial dismissed. They are not buying the Trump objections that he did nothing wrong, he was able to "magically" declassify documents properly belong to the Federal governmemt, or that he had little influence over the pro-Trump insurrectionists.
The other pointed out the Republicans are not paying attention to the fact that times have changed from 2016 to the upcoming 2024 elections. 50,000 younger voters have now reached voting age, and are far more likely to vote against Trump than for him.Pat D. https://forum.casebook.org/core/imag...rt/reading.gif

In other news, Rudy Giuliani has conceded that his public comments about election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss were defamatory:
“He does not dispute for the purposes of this litigation, that the statements carry meaning that is defamatory per se.” However, he also states that he does not admit that his statements were false but that he does not contest them: "“Mayor Rudy Giuliani did not acknowledge that the statements were false but did not contest it in order to move on to the portion of the case that will permit a motion to dismiss,". Answers on a postcard please.
Elsewhere, the world-reknown cardiologist Elon Musk X-ed that Bronny James' cardiac arrest was due to the Covid vaccine.
Fox news are debating the the benefits of the Holocaust to the jews in the context of the Florida education board greenlighting a new curriculum that mandates teachers include the benefits of slavery to the slaves.
A rather interesting news-day methinks.

Trump hit again with another charge in the mishandled federal documents case, and another Mar-a-Lago employee added as a co-defendent. The latter is suspected to trying to obtain/remove security camera footage of documents boxes being moved, presumably under Trump's command.
But the charge for Trump of "willful withholding of classified security documents" is related to the security plan for Iran that he has been heard in a revealed audiotape "showing off" to others and boasting about it being "secret". This undermines his argument that the boxes only had magazines and clippings in them, no "documents."
Trump, who lives in a fantasy world, says he is still running for President.
Other news from the Republican field: Lagging 30 poll points behind the ex-President, Ron Desantis doesn't defend Trump's actions, but doesn't criticize him, either.
The third-place candidate, Tim Scott, an African-American Republican congressman, has objected to the Florida school curriculum about how slavery was "benefical" to blacks because it taught them skills. He pointed out that "slavery was about chains, beatings, and hard labor" and all children should learn about its truth. His poll standing is rising slowly.
Biden is focusing disapproval on a "single Republican Senator from Alabama" who is refusing to vote on military appropriations, thus endangering our nation's security and all ranks of armed forces personnel.

It's certainly a sorry state of affairs in the US politics. It's not the self serving corruption, I expect that, it's the nature of what's passing for discourse. It's juvenile and hateful. The floor of the world's greatest democracy is reduced to spreading lies, petty name calling, threats and an overall conduct that's not been seen before in a 'civilized' government.
The cult of Trump has damaged the Republican Party. No one has the guts to stand up whilst these unhinged lunatics are destroying the senate, because to do so would jeopardize their careers. The Democrats seem to be less deranged, but Biden going for a second term isn't filling anyone with confidence and fuels the rights obsession with his frailty.
At least it looks like Hunter Biden will be charged with actual offenses, a lack of presidential pardon might inspire confidence that there's a scrap of integrity left in the White House.Thems the Vagaries.....

I'm with Nikky Haley here. I forgot how many indictments we have on the board now. is it 3? 4? andthere is more to come.
What I find hilarious about this one is that Trump's strategy is to throw his previous lawyers (Giulliani, Powell, Clarke) under the bus. And the current lawyers agree with this strategy!!!

As Hunter is offered his sweetheart deal Trump is indicted yet again. This indictment appears to be the weakest so far. I know this isn't the Biden thread but each passing week he's looking less likely to be the 24 nominee. One thing about Dems is that they appear blind to their own extremist actions here. Running on a decent economy is generally a winning strategy for most incumbents/parties. The 24 election is now primarily about Trump himself and government corruption(or lack thereof if you're a Dem).

The weak indictment is the New York one for falsifying business records. It's not weak for lack of evidence, like all of the indictments there's plenty of evidence of Trump's criming. The NY case is weak because the reasoning for turning multiple misdemeanors into felonies is weak.
