New people do join, and they want to discuss things, which is the best way of learning. Some discussions might seem repetitive to us old fogeys, but it's the first time for the newbies, so good luck to them and I hope they enjoy it. I know I did.

        Hello CD.

"Dead horses can only be beaten so much."

True. My old professor once said, "I don't mind beating a dead horse--but don't stick him in the blender."

        Cheers.

A couple of reasons why I hardly post anymore is that there is a lot of repitition, which don't have a problem with as we were all newbies once. But the main reason I hardly post is that there are several people new to the case (about 5 to 10 years) who seem to think that people who have studied the case for decades are wrong. That what they have learnt and read over the decades is wrong and these new people are only posting to put us right and its only there opinion that matters and they are never wrong.
I try not to get involved in these debates as I would be have to be rude. And that's not like me.
Thankfully I am in a postion where I don't give a toss about them and I still have a few friends I can debate with in a sensible manner and have no ego to bruise.

Its only Roberts humour that keeps the boards sane and worth reading.

Well said, Rob. I couldn't agree more.

People come and go ( some vocally, some not ). That's how it goes. It is quiet right now, but it probably won't last. And people have lives, you know? Yes, there are some to whom posting here is plainly very important and integral to their existence: but for the rest of us, its a hobby - not to say it isn't a serious interest to many posters - but a pastime nonetheless. Sometimes I guess real life takes precedence.

I generally read the boards, even if I don't have time to get involved in debate right now. Its a good site, always interesting.

I'll admit that this has deterred me from taking part in several otherwise interesting discussions.

                      Hi,
Well there we go folks , the thread has at least got dormant feelings expressed, and has got the most posts of the day to boot.
As Scott suggested lets liven things up a bit , how about all of us stating a debatable thread to kick start the weekend?
                      Regards Richard.

                        Hi Ginger,

Most newbie questions were addressed long ago [check out Casebook's voluminous archive], so the subject has become one not to be entered into lightly or ill-prepared.

And, as most good lawyers will advise, never ask a question until you know [or believe you know to the very best of your knowledge] the answer.

                        Regards,

                        Simon

That's good advice for an adversarial debate, where you're trying to sway onlookers by making your opponent look uninformed or dishonest. It's a rather less useful strategy for the type of debate and argument that's intended to test the truth of competing hypotheses, which is what I had expected to encounter here.

The reason I don't post much is that I am of the opinion that the lunatics have taken over the asylum.

I look every couple of days....Notice a 10-page thread dominated by about four people who will never agree.....and go away..........

                                liven things up

                                Hello Scott.

"Well let's just try and liven things up a bit, shall we?"

Sure. Try yet another Liz Stride thread or perhaps a Toppy.

                                Cheers.
