What depresses me is why anyone would want to restrict another person's freedom in this way, for their own religious reasons.

If you don't believe in abortion, it's quite simple: don't have one. If you're a man, you are free to have that conversation before having sex with a woman of childbearing age.

If you don't believe in same sex marriage, it couldn't be simpler: don't marry someone of the same sex. They won't be heartbroken!

But don't dictate to others what they should or shouldn't do with their own bodies, and their own lives, based on nothing more substantial than your personal beliefs and selfish prejudices. That's the opposite of what I was brought up to believe were 'Christian' values.

    Love,

    Caz

Current affairs have certainly caused me to ruminate on my immense good fortune at being born exactly when and where I was.

I can't help but feel that a generation or two either way and I'd be stuck in the role of a brood mare.

A sobering and somewhat depressing thought.

Thank goodness for decent secular sex education, free contraception and the right to choose.

I do fear for the future though....

        Exactly Caz!

        I couldn't agree more.

I wish people would just live their own lives, and stop imposing their own bigotry and warped values on others.

I think Joe Biden should warn them, the Supreme Court is also not protected by the Constitution.
I did read a few things that stated the Supreme Court can be disciplined (and apparently has been) if a decision goes against a Constitutional right. That is encouraging, but with such a hot-button topic, I am guarded about being too hopeful. Some tactics may be Presidential actions by simply codifying Roe vs Wade??

Personally, I was raised Catholic and do believe in Life, but I think imposing far-reaching bans on a certain segment of the population as to whether or not they can/must be a parent is ridiculous! I have always wished the religious sector would fight more strongly against child abuse to living children (already here on Earth) than to worry about the supposed "murder" of a fetus in the womb.
Some people, when I express this opinion, say God must have a reason for a child suffering abuse. My state still supports abortion, and may experience an influx of patients from surrounding areas.

Our midterm primary was yesterday, and our (gay) governor is up for re-election against a conservative (of course) Republican (who apparently was once a Dem), so only time will tell if we're allowed to keep abortion legal here.

I did note that the election official who was involved in a scandal about letting unauthorized persons tamper with voting machines in the 2020 election-- and who was trying for a higher state legislation position-- came in third in her attempt.

              Hi Ms Diddles,

Until the political shenanigans here in the UK from 2016 and ongoing, I always considered myself one of the luckiest people alive, to have been born a female in London in the 1950s. The saying that if you can remember the sixties, you weren't really there, could not be less applicable in my case!

I fear for the future of the younger generations, who are being seriously let down by their elders, who cannot by any stretch be described as their 'betters'.

              Love,

                Hi Pat,

Here in Devon, there was a by-election a week ago, which was won by the Liberal Democrats, overturning a Conservative majority of more than 24,000.

The by-election was triggered by the resignation of the Tory member of parliament, who was caught watching porn on his phone in the House of Commons.

Yet another one who thought rules were for fools.

I'm not going to lie. I'm not depressed, I am PISSED. I am currently seething with rage. I am livid that I live in a backwards effing state, in a backwards effing country that's been exposed as tragically moronic, tragically hypocritical, and tragically corrupt. And don't get me wrong, it's not that I think we're particularly unique in this fact, and I realize that other countries are dealing with their own issues, but I am absolutely incensed that I, as a woman, am being relegated to a third-class citizen by backwards, dim-witted hillbillies who want to reduce me to parasite delivery system based on some BS religion that none of them follow the moment it's inconvenient for them. My rage right now is .... immense.

                        Yep, and no wonder!

I would be howling with rage too if such restrictions had been instigated where I live.

I'm apoplectic and disgusted as it is on behalf of the female population of the US.

It feels like the pendulum is currently swinging in a very dangerous direction in the US (although as you say, that's not unique and it is definitely happening elsewhere too).

At the moment the rednecks, hypocrites and bigots have the power. Unfortunately the ramifications of that will largely be suffered by women and minority groups (isn't that always the case though?!)

Yeah, we have them here too of course.

Perhaps not so many of 'em, but they do make a hell of a noise all the same.

Don’t know how this got passed me but Johnson when he was foreign secretary was caught banging his current wife then mistress when still married to his old wife who developed cancer. He was caught by an mp walking in on them, he is now being treated for ptsd.
Anyway the state of client journalism in this country allowed No10 to phone up and get the story pulled, if you’ll pardon the expression.

                              Hi String,

It's not so much the fact that BJ was cheating on his wife and getting a BJ on the sofa in his place of work. It's the fact that he was trying to get his mistress a 100k job at the time, and was only stopped as a result of being caught in the act with her.

When you think of all the resignations on all sides for far more minor 'indiscretions' over the years, one wonders what BJ would have to do before his last supporter decides enough is enough.

Is there anyone apart from his current wife and Jacob Rees-Mogg who still claims to admire this creep?

                              Love,

It's no coincidence that when minorities start asking for the same rights and freedoms that the dominant white male has enjoyed since the dawn of time, it's the worst of the dominant white males who react like spoilt children, whose mommy has taken all their toys away.

If it's any consolation, they must be feeling very threatened - all the time.
