So what are the odds that in 6 months or so, that they will be begging him to come back?

Seriously, I understand about him staying on as "Acting Prime Minister" until they can select a new leader. But how does the "Resign 10 minutes ago" idea work? How is an "Interim PM" selected?

Don't start me on probability theory, C.F., but this one is incredibly easy. There is a big fat ZERO chance of Boris being begged to come back in six months time and - I assume - in any months time.

Shame, really, as he is high on entertainment value. Just very low indeed on credibility value.

BBC News was just reporting that Rwanda has offered BJ Political Asylum...

Can someone please explain why this clown was more popular than Teresa May?

^ According to the NY Times article I just read, May was "competent but uninteresting" (or maybe they used the word "boring"). Johnson tied into populist viewpoints and became entertaining. Or something like that.

Congratulations on the good news about your "soon-to-be-former Prime Minister" (who looks as if he should be wearing a powdered wig in a BBC costume drama about a buffonish Briton with some authority and "very little brain" to quote Pooh Bear.)

Simple: That's what "Deputy Prime Minister"s are there for.

Currently Dominic Raab, 48. Damn, he was born the year I GRADUATED HS. Is he involved in the Scandal? What's the opinion on HIM? Honest- just disagree with his political opinions? or the Brains behind BJ? or even the mastermind that plotted this de facto coup? Just be wary if he brings Queen Liz a cake or cookies... Especially if they're Gooseberry. I mean, who even thought GOOSEBERRY was a delicacy?

It's all a damn soap opera, isn't it? I've been thinking of The Truman Show in the last couple of years. "For all the world's a stage"...

Well a good proportion of the Tory party as well as the rest of the commons and the country want him out now, no dithering for months on end living off the taxpayer. The problem is Raab is as thick as mince and the rest are as corrupt as Johnson was. I was hoping that Johnson in a fit of pique would call an election and we might see the back of most of them but not as yet.
I’m no fan of Starmer but he’s been cleared of any rule breaking by the police, certainly a good week.

LBC listeners are blown away by James O'Brien's instant reaction to the news that Sir Keir Starmer has been cleared of any rulebreaking in the Beergate saga.

Dominik Raab is milk toast. Certainly no evil genius or any kind of genius for that matter.... which means he won't win the election.

Starmer is a massive mprovement over Corbyn but i think he has swallowed a broom-stick. actually, the current state of british politics is pretty depressing. which is proven by the fact that some people are talking about the return of the Millibands.... and i can't even remember the name of the Lib Dems leader. maybe i should just have another bottle of wine and leave it at that....

Starmer had a preplanned beer and curry night with a bunch of his mates and got away with it. Someone brought Boris a piece of birthday cake in his place of work and he got fined and accused of being a law breaker.

Boris’s resignation signals the death of democracy in the U.K. Who gives a toss how many millions voted for him, the lefty Twitter mob didn’t like his hair, so he had to go.

Not many would have voted for him, he only appeared on the ballot paper in one electorate. The party then voted him as leader and they can then remove him, but this time he quit.

This is why democracy is under threat. The lies and twisting of the truth.
Starmer was on a working trip, allowed under the rules, they a had a meal break, allowed under the rules, the police found he didn’t break the rules.
On the other hand Johnson had party after party in his own house, he attended some of them, we seen the pictures, he got fined for one. 126 fines to one house, the highest in the UK I think and the first serving PM to be found breaking the law. He’s had many adulterous relationships, including seeing his current wife, his mistress then, whilst his then wife was receiving treatment for cancer. He lied over Brexit, it’s not done and it’s a disaster, he lied during covid, he closed down too slowly, opened up to quickly and pushed infected people back into care homes resulting in many more unnecessary deaths. He lied over 40 hospitals, he lied over levelling up, there’s been none. Inflation is at 10%, families this winter are going to freeze because they can afford to heat the house. We are 19th on oecd growth forecast list of 20 countries with only Russia behind. Christ the man even lied to Queen. So why should we keep him?

Speaking of hair which is his trademark the man looks an absolute shambles and it’s disgraceful that he represented this country in state he was in. I like many others were ashamed to have him representing us.
He got in on a Brexit lie and more lies have seen him off.

                            Hi Mr B!

Our opinions on this are so far apart that I find it hard to believe that we are actually viewing the exact same events!!

From where I'm sitting, Starmer has been cleared of all wrong doing and stands exonerated.

Boris on the other hand has broken the rules time and time again (hence the countless fines), lied shamelessly to cover up his wrongdoings, and encouraged his spineless self-interested cronies to lie on his behalf too.

I couldn't be happier to see the back of that entitled, corrupt spoiled brat.

It's a shame that whoever fills his shoes will likely be more of the same.

Essentially, I'm with Svensson on this. I'm no great fan of Labour at the moment either, and am utterly disillusioned with the state of British politics in general.

I've never been a huge fan of Scottish independence, and I voted "no" in the last referendum (largely because at that time it appeared inconceivable that the UK would ever leave the EU, and I wanted to ensure that we remained a member, yep!! I got that totally wrong)!!!

I'm extremely risk averse by nature, but right now if we get another referendum up here, I and many others like me are ready to hit the eject button and take our chances.

                            It's come to that!

                              Agreed String!

There's actually a nice kind of symmetry to his political trajectory.

Bullish!t, swagger and a disregard for the rules brought him to power and the same saw him leave in ignominy.

When he eventually does leave, of course.......

It would appear to the untrained eye that Bozo might be a tad amoral. However I think he is just rather weak: like Oscar he can resist anything except temptation, and in his case, pressure. However, in the descent of prime ministers from John "peas" Major down through Billy "liar" to our current clown it is hard to see anyone of the nine contenders being other than appalling. Especially "billionaire" Sunak who appeared to do nothing in his reign at the Treasury other than borrow 30 trillion dollars which we in the disUnited Kingdom will all have to repay for the foreseeable.

Anyway, politics! That was one of the three things I was warned not to discuss at table. Another was religion. And there was something else, er, I cant remember, I must be getting old.
