Different British folk
Anyone know of the Unthank sisters?

Or for a more generalised view, how about this excellent Christmas show from Shadwell Town Hall:-

OOOOOOOOOOh, Dave -did you ever see them ?
(I just sang along to Claudy Banks ! -I usually sing the Shirley Collins version to the taps in my shower).
I never did get up to Rottingdean. I used to go to the Springfield Arms, next to Preston Park station for my Folk nights.
I had a bit of green eyed envy watching your video...I have never dreamed of being born a millionaire's daughter, but I sure would have liked to have been born into the Copper family -or the Carthy/Watersons for that matter
Springfield? Know it well...apart from being brought up not far from there (just across the other side of Stanford Avenue), my first wife was from Springfield Road (lower down though just below Beaconsfield Road)...
All the best
Dave

Folkies might want to check out Kirk Elliott.
Obscenely talented musician. He taught me to play the zheng back in the 70's
He released two albums with the band "Short Turn" back in the mid-70's that are sadly impossible to find today. The first album remains one of my favourites.“Sans arme, sans violence et sans haine”

The Silly Sisters were a big influence for me, too..
And through Maddy and the Silly Sisters I got to love June Tabor solo..she bacame my Goddess (I saw her a couple of times at the 'Springfield').
She was perfect http://youtu.be/NaB0h1jkdPk

I thoroughly enjoyed the 2010 film 'Winter's Bone' ( some echos of' Deliverence') -and not least for the soundtrack...on which Merideth Sisco featured.
I bought the album which is just fabulous. Actually my fave tracks 'Winter's Bone' (Dicon Hinchcliffe ?) and 'Bred and Buttererd' (John Hawkes -who plays Uncle Teardrop in the fim, don't actually feature in the film, and I can't find them on youtube.
But here is blast of Merideth

I have found the John Hawkes song now -I love it; He is singing from the point of view of the missing person/invisible person in the film.

Yes...I saw June Tabor at the Springfield...at least once...I think twice... (though the second time might be at the Stanford Arms at Preston Circus...my memory's a bit dim)...I've got to be honest though, I think they're actually a lot better than the Silly Sisters!
All the best

I saw June Tabor twice at the Springfield, in the late '70s. Maybe we went to the same gigs ?

I love the Dubliners -but agree with the person who posted this track on youtube and said that it was just the hardest song to sing !
