  • Not a fan of Crocodile Dundee then, Nimrod? Perhaps slightly upset that CDIII was set in the US instead of England, are we?

I actually wish Hoags would do more work these days, despite the fact that he's 70 odd and the worst enemy of the tax man....

    Cheers,
    Adam.

Now Monty, I know you're not exactly Einstein's long lost twin, and that's fine, but SURELY you know the difference between left and right?

      • Hello all,

This is the latest update, including the current Test Match, of most Test runs in a career of current leading Australian and English players.

        RT Ponting 152 matches 259 innings 28 not out 12363 runs 257 highest 53.51 average 39 (100's) 56(50's)

        AJ Strauss 89 matches 157 innings 6 not out 6340 runs 177 highest 42.90 average 19 (100's) 25 (50's)

        K Pietersen 78 matches 133 innings 7 not out 6361 runs 227 highest 50.40 average 18 (100's) 25 (50's)

        AN Cook 72 matches 125 innings 7 not out 5868 runs 294 highest 49.88 average 19 (100's) 26 (50's)

        IR Bell 69 matches 116 innings 14 not out 5027 runs 235 highest 49.23 average 16 (100's) 28 (50's)

        M Hussey 59 matches 103 innings 12 not out 4650 runs 195 highest 51.09 average 13 (100's) 24 (50's)

        J Trott 23 matches 38 innings 4 not out 1963 runs 226 highest 57.79 average 6 (100's) 7 (50's)

        Ponting is 36 years old
        Hussey is 36 years old

        Strauss is 34 years old
        Pietersen is 31 years old
        Trott is 30 years old
        Cook is 26 years old
        Bell is 29 years old

Sorry Adam. This tells me that for the next 3 or 4 years, England's batting is pretty safe.

That would include the Ashes in 2013.

unless you have a sudden influx of players with experience without age.. it isn't looking good old chap, is it?

LOL, rubbish. You just exposed yourself again as an idiot.

And Xavier Doherty just got MOTM in his last match.

            Phil:

            Love yer stats, don't ya?
Well I saw an interview with Ricky the other day where he said he hoped to be able to play for "at least a couple of years to come" - that would, I presume, include 2013. And Hussey is such a passionate cricketer that he won't go anywhere any time soon, he's a late bloomer anyway.

But that's not the point. The point is that we have plenty of batting depth in our state teams, plenty of willing and able batsmen to fill holes players like that will leave behind. Hell, Brad Hodge couldn't get a game and he averaged over 50 in his handful of Test matches including a double ton. It's the bowling that's the concern for us.

As for England, good as they are going at the moment, I see no out-and-out superstars in that team. Traitorsen is the only one who comes close and he's nothing compared to the player he was 5 years ago. They're just an OK team, nothing more.

            • Hello Adam,

Err... if the bowling is the problem.. as you say... please note the problem will be getting the top 6 or 7 out. Those from Strauss all the way down...

And England, like Australia at their best used to, bat all the way down to 9 or 10.

              Yup, love my stats. ;-)

              cheers

Oop, forgot to add Adam Went to that list of Aussie comics.

Who was he playing against? Jebus, my Gran would have gotten MOM against them and she is deceased.

Even you, you could have and you were only watching.

However, against England? We laughed so hard at him a lil bit of wee came out.

Right again! How do you know so much about me? Are you related to The Piddingtons (Aussie mentalists)? Still haven't checke out Skype: would I need to fork out for a stupid headset or would an ordinary mic and headphones do?

                  • Phil:

Actually, truth be told, I think a lot of international players retire too early these days. They just think "Oh crap, i'm 35 now, have to retire" - when they've still got 2-3 good years of cricket still left in them. We need look no further than Rahul Dravid of late, 38 years old and quite possibly the player of the series in a team which has been walloped and otherwise woeful.

Sachin has also been in the form of his career, arguably, in the last year or 2 as well. Personally if I got the chance to represent my country in the sport I loved then I would be doing so until I couldn't see the damned ball anymore, or twanged a hammy every time I walked onto the field.

As for Strauss, saw a "highlights" package the other day of the series against India where he scratched around for an hour, scoring 2 solitary runs, then nicked one.

England are a boring team, horrible to watch. Especially Cook. Ugh.

                    Monty:

We are both talking about Sri Lanka, aren't we? You know, the team which boasts names such as Dilshan, Sangakkara and Jayawardene?

Doherty isn't a Test bowler, definitely not, but he's a good limited overs bowler.

However, against England? We laughed so hard at him a lil bit of wee came out.

Another sign of your advanced years.

                    Nimrod:

Not related to any mentalists, just that Monty told me all about you, even the stuff I really didn't want to know.

Nope, an ordinary mic/headset will do the trick - or, if you're on a laptop, yo don't need anything at all!

                    Cheers,
                    Adam.

                    • My team, lowly lil Leicestershire, the team no one backs, no one mentions and is always written off, has just won the T20 for the third time. Meaning they keep the trophy and qualify for the Worlds.

Well done lads, and my buddy Paul Nixon.

Proud of every damn one of you.

                          • Adam,

That was supposed to be his last game, but as we are in the champions league he will play there.

                            Was his last in England.

There was a beautiful moment when, just before MacDonald bowled the last ball, the camera cut to a close up of Nico. And there was an obvious sign of a tear in his eye.

And his catch, ****in amazin take. Go watch it if you can.

He is staying on at the club as a coach which I'm real pleased with. A real good old pro which, I suspect, will be in the England coaching set up at some stage.

Got to see part of the replay of that match on TV last night, your blokes did well Monty, beating Stresscothick's mob I see....

As for Paul Nixon, I've got memories of his playing ODI's for England down here against us at one stage a few years back....everybody thought he was a bit of a surprise call up because of his age even then. 36 or so at the time. Don't remember much of how he actually performed but I DO clearly remember that he was an absolute competitor, never say die attitude, always chirping with something from behind the stumps. Bad case of white line fever, that fellow.

Pleased to see that an Aussie was involved in your victory too Monty (naturally), in "Ronny" MacDonald....

                              Cheers,
