Great Rock Albums discussion

Hi all

(Def: Rock albums or any album (any genre) that is really good all the way through. Although there is sometimes one or two difficult track we are not sure of.)

I have no idea if something similar is already active here. If it is, could somebody be kind enough to chastise me and point me in the right direction.

Anyway, having got past that, I would like to hear everybody else's personal favourites and perhaps top 10's etc.

I have recently been listening to a fantastic album from 1968. The Zombies, Odessey and Oracle.

Fantastic songwriting from Chris White and Rod Argent. Beautiful vocals from the wonderful Colin Blunstone.

The one "difficult" track for some might be "The Butcher's Tale", a song about a shell shocked WWI trench infantry man. Strong anti-war stuff.

I got into this after seeing this album being played on Rock World TV by the Zombies...40 years after it was recorded and the first time it was ever played live! Brilliant stuff. A forgotten gem.

What a great thread! I was going to do something similar, identifying my favourite all-time pure pop favourites (being very pedantic, I HAVE to categorise my musical tastes into pure pop, quality rock, favourite folk, favourite classical pieces and blues/jazz favourites).

I agree with JTRSickert although I haven't heard either the AC/DC or Def Leppard albums. I have never been into heavy metal but will certainly give the AC/DC album a go soon as I have heard other positive feedback about it.

I could have easily listed a Top 50 without having more than 2 albums by a single artist on the list. I own roughly 400 vinyl albums, dozens of cassettes, and about 200 CDs. Plus music that I only have as CD rips in my computer. There are 116 GBs of music in my computer. From Classical to Jazz to Rock to Swing & Big Bands to stuff that can't be dropped into a specific genre.

Check out Budgie. There's a Best Of around which would be a great start.

Terrorvision. First 3 albums are ace.
"Formaldehyde"
"How to Make Friends and Influence People"
"Regular Urban Survivors"

Ugly Kid Joe. Only made 3 albums and an EP and all are good although their last album "Motel California" is a trifle odd in parts. Cool though.

The Almighty. First 2 albums are OK but from then on they ruled Earth.
I'd go for "Just Add Life" as their best in some ways.

The Cult. "Love", "Electric" and "Sonic Temple" kick bottom but "Beyond Good and Evil" kicks all bottoms in a big way.
