  • The Knowing

I heard mixed reviews about this movie, but wanted to see it, so sat and watched it during a quite day with no family.
It revolves around Nicholas Cage and his son, and a piece of paper thats not only 50 years old and has been locked in a time capsule, but contains details of world events. Cue Cage running about solving puzzles like that other film where he runs around solving puzzles, only not as interesting.

Visually, it's a stunning, jaw dropping movie, but the plot is like something from a really bad night on the Paranormal channel!

The ending that follows Cage's charector is such a depressing downer, that it had me feeling a little angry, and the ending ending was so confusing, it left so many many unanswered questions.

Alex Proyas is a worth director, but I think he took on more than he could handle.

    • Well I'm not a big film watcher and it's been around for a long while now but I finally got around to watching Underworld:Rise Of The Lycans. Maybe the franchise has just run its course, or maybe it was because it was a prequel and the story and ending had been given away in the previous films, but it seemed to be lacking something compared to the other films. Still not bad though. I've been thinking of seeing Blood:The Last Vampire, has anyone seen it or know what its like?

      • I saw The Spirit and The Watchmen as a double feature last week.

The Spirit was good, but some of the acting was terrible--too much emphasis on the style, not enough on the performance.

The Watchmen was awesome. Looked great and the acting was pretty solid.

        • Went round to my mates last night and we all sat and watched Night of the Creeps, a really bad 80's horror directed by Fred Dekker. It had some many moments that made us laugh, and very little horror!

I also tried watching the new Friday the 13th but just got angry at what they had done to the franchise.

          • Julie & Julia is great. But it made me so

            • Quite right. My wife and I saw it the other evening. Great performances by all concerned. Although, I thought it was just a little too long, and that some of the "Julie" sequences were repetitive. Some judicious editing would have made this a great film.

              • Does anyone know anything about the new red barron movie, as I am a big fan of the dogfight era?

                • I've been on the night shift again, which means movies, movies, movies

This month I mostly rewatched old favourites. Particularly The Great Train Robbery and Plunkett and Maclean., both of which are a riot!

I also re-watched Hoodwinked--I'd forgotten just how clever it was. I'm looking forward to the upcoming sequel.

I picked up a double feature the other day--Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz in one package--looking forward to seeing what the special features are.

                  • I watched the new Last House on the Left this week. It's not for everyone but I thought it was passable. I have never seen the original so my view was not colored either way by that.
This my opinion and to the best of my knowledge, that is, if I'm not joking.

You haven't missed anything--the original is one of the most overrated "cult" movies of all time.

Speaking of remakes, I started watching the remake of Friday The 13th last week. I lasted about 20 minutes. I don't now whether I just wasn't in the mood, or whether it really is as dreadful as it seemed.

                      • You lasted longer than me. I love the Friday the 13th movies, but the latest was a real bore! I know they planned on making parts 1, 2, and 3 as one movie, but the first part takes place during the first few seconds and that's it! I felt a bit cheated! So much for re-booting the franchise!

                        • Last night I watched "The Tournament". It was okay, but some of the violence was unnecessarily nasty, and Robert Carlyle was wasted in the lead role. Kelly Hu rocked though.

Tonight I watched "Crank 2", and all I can say is that MTV has a lot to answer for. It could have been a (barely) decent movie, but it's like watching a 90 minute Nike commercial. It seems to have been made by/for pimply, sexually frustrated, angst-ridden teenaged boys suffering from ADD. Even that wouldn't be so bad, except that the "humour" is largely mean spirited and nasty, rather than funny.

                          • I watched Saw 6 a couple of nights ago. Saw has to be one of the very few horror franchises that actually gets better with every film

And I'm happy as a pig in poo this evening--I picked up a copy of Theatre Of Blood on DVD. One of my favourite movies of all time!

I won't make any deals. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed,de-briefed, or numbered!

                              • I have seen quite a few films over the last few months but the best by far was "Into the Wild".

I would recommend people watch it before reading any reviews.
