  • Hi Dougie, I remember a while ago there was a manson related doc, that I was supposed to get in my store. At last minute, the distributor pulled the plug and we never got it! I was gutted, but it recieved a lot of bad press in the trade mags at the time. I wonder if it was the same one!

I remember they had marketed a really bad looking sleeve, with red writing on it, in fact, somewhere upstairs in my movie boxes, I should still have the artwork for it, as I kept a lot of the murder stuff!
    Regards Mike

      Mike,
There was a documentary just titled "MANSON!" made by this hendrickson guy,who had access to the "family" and filmed on location ..I believe amazon had it on sale some years ago but there was a threatened law suit by hendrickson and it was removed. This latest "inside the manson gang" was released about 6 months ago and in limited numbers and only from this hendrickson fellow....I tried to purchase a copy and was told that no rights had been granted outside of the u.s so they couldnt sell me a copy.....Ive had friends within america try to purchase a copy for me but for some reason they have been unable to..but the film does exist for sure, you can even view trailers on you tube unless they have been removed for legal reasons ..im not sure. filmed at spahn ranch and death valley at the time, all the family is there, interviews etc daily life.......well worth watching..if you can get it....
      regards

      • I still have contacts in the distribution business and I shall see if I can track a copy down.

        • Paul Newman died yesterday. I'd heard he was in bad shape a couple of weeks ago. There's a guy who almost never made a bad movie.
This my opinion and to the best of my knowledge, that is, if I'm not joking.

          • I rarely read or watch the news after tea time. It's family time, then when the kids have gone to bed, it's either a film, or we snuggle and watch tv.

This morning, I had to organise a bulky refuse collection, which was due to start at 8.30 until 11, then I made my way to West Hull to take some photo's. I finally got to read the news about 30 minutes ago, my jaw dropped to the floor, and I was close to tears!

I loved the man, he made some awsome films, and I have most of them on video. My wife recently bought me a very rare edition of "Butch and Sundance", and my son, is crazy about "Cars", the Disney/Pixar movie!

I know he was old, and was aware he was ill, but I never expected this!

            May he rest in peace!
            Regards Mike

            • Hi Mike,

I used to see him at various motor sports events. He would p!ss some people off because he wouldn't give autographs but I understand that he didn't want to do that all the time. I suppose if anyone ever got an autograph from him that it would be worth some real money.

                  • I really want to see the new Pacino/DeNiro movie! Sounds like good fun!

Last night, after a really bad day with my heart we settled and watched "Pans Labrynth" which was an "Adult fairytale", it was actually quite good, and had a touching story line.

                    • Xanadu

Hiya, In 1980 the movie Xanadu (O.N.J. Gene Kelly and Michael Beck)flopped at the box office but has since turned into a cult classic. I see that it has resurfaced into a Tony Award winning production on Broadway in 2007. Has anyone seen this and is it worth going to ?

                        • We own the Night

It's a tense cop thriller about a father and his two sons. The father is chief of police and his son is head of the narcotics division. His other son runs a night club full of drugs, and eventually he has to decide which side he is on.

There are lots of very tense scenes between brothers, and it is hard to trust anyone as the plot unravels. There is also a very surreal but realistic car chase that made my jaw drop.

Lots of shooting, women, drugs and cops. Typical night in Hull then

                          • Last night, I watched Detour (1946) starring Tom Neal, the actor who later went to jail for killing one of his wives, and Ann Savage, a really great actress. For the life of me, I can't figure out why she didn't become a mega-star. Anyway, the good news, at 87, she's still with us.

                            • Four Brothers

We got this very cheap and the read up on the rear and write up on the net was pretty good so we sat and watched and wasn't disappointed.

It's about a lady who is a foster parent to 4 very different young men, she is murdered and they return home to seek revenge. It is essentially a buddy movie, but the acting is spot on, and boy is it tense.

The four brothers must bond, and take on the local "Gangsta" and there are so many plot twists and turns, a wonderful film, and it left a lump in the throat too!

                              • I recently watched a screen production (AKA - film) of Oliver Twist I must say I liked it a lot. I'm rather fond of Oliver Twist, an interesting story. A pain to read, but lots of fun to watch.
