Probably; he's certainly a huge favourite of mine. Wales, of course, has produced Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey - not bad for a small country. Not forgetting Shakin' Stevens who, though not in the same league, I think was the biggest-selling UK solo artist of the 1980s.Last edited by Sam Flynn; 04-30-2017, 09:54 AM.Kind regards, Sam Flynn

Wales also produced one of the unluckiest bands of all time :

Hello Abby,
>> Anyone else other than Elton John? Is he englands biggest star?<<
You may not have heard of him, but he did pretty well for awhile, a guy named Bowie;-)
Adele has done pretty well for herself so far too. She just picked up a $38 million check for doing five towns here in Oz.dustymiller

Adele is not remotely original though or good. Average voice, boring pop songs that all sound the same.Originally posted by drstrange169 View PostHello Abby,

Hello John,
Re Adele: Abby was amending it to famous solo UK artists rather than exceptional talent.
I'm not particularly an Adele fan either.
Re Metal bands: To me, it's not a list unless Motorhead is at the top of it!dustymiller

most original bands/artists of all time? Probably the ones who have really created (or at least got it to a "critical mass") a new genre on their own (sorry, Beatles, "Pop music" is not really a genre IMO
). So based on that, I can think of:
David Bowie
New York Dolls
Kraftwerk
Led Zeppelin
Elvis Presley
Dunno much about Soul/RnB but I suspect that the roots of this really go back to pre-media or pre-recordings times so it's probably hard to come up with genre-defining names there.

well was thinking of Bowie, but is he really a super star even close to Elton John or any of the others I listed?Originally posted by drstrange169 View PostHello Abby,

I have him listed as one of the most original musical artists, but a full blown super star? not so sure.
Adele, kind of same.
Don't get me wrong-Love en both, just not so sure if Bowie and Adele are on same super star level as the others."Is all that we see or seem

I don't know most of those bands, but the ones I do know(slayer, sepultura, anthrx,DP, LZ,Mega, RAM) I don't see anything particularily original.Originally posted by John Wheat View PostDeath

agree with Bowie, Kraftwerk, maybe dolls.Originally posted by Svensson View Postmost original bands/artists of all time? Probably the ones who have really created (or at least got it to a "critical mass") a new genre on their own (sorry, Beatles, "Pop music" is not really a genre IMO

I would need some convincing though on Elvis and Zep, though theyre definitely close. (on true originality)."Is all that we see or seem

Of the bands you do know they were original when they first came out with the exception of Sepultura who were original up until after Roots. As for Exit 13 they are kind of an avant garde Grindcore band. I recommend there track Societally Provoked Genocidal Contemplation.Originally posted by Abby Normal View PostI don't know most of those bands, but the ones I do know(slayer, sepultura, anthrx,DP, LZ,Mega, RAM) I don't see anything particularily original.
