If my favourite suspect was ruled out on good evidence, then I would just have to accept it (having assured myself that the new evidence was solid, and that the new evidence did have the effect of ruling out my suspect). What else is there to do?
I still don't have a suspect or suspects after years of research. It's an easy answer for me...wherever the evidence lies that's where I'll go. So far, nobody is worthy of being my favorite suspect but I have taken people off the list.
You have been dropping hints about this for months, maybe a year or more... across the board (literally), on thread after thread, hinting that you are going to reveal some shocking new evidence that will show, once and for all, that Jack the Ripper was an invention of some "higher ups" somewhere, to cover up some big scandal or something.
Now you have published your theory. It is basically a fantasy, a fabrication.. you have taken a few scattered facts and invented a theory that is quite fantastic and unbelievable.
So therefore, I said... well, we can go back to our boring old theory that Jack the Ripper was indeed a serial killer.

Oh I don't know, Rob
A famous and notorious Tory Member of Parliament sleeping in a Spitalfields dosshouse with a clapped out old prostitute and then not being recognised at her inquest after she is murdered sounds very reasonable to me.
Nice to know that good old style Ripperology isn't dead.
The silly ones like Unkle Jack (John Williams), Walter Sickert, Deeming, Cream, Maybrick, etc. That at least narrowed down the field to only 116 known and named possibles!

Hello Stephen,
To be honest...and we have to be...MP's and high flyers have covered their tracks for years and years when involved where sleeping with the opposite sex, vice, porn, gambling, money, fame, murder etc are concerned.
It is nothing new at all. Infact, it is almost a "normal" occurrance. Scandel, cover-up and lies are all part of the way of life for some people. The examples are almost endless.
And if everyone thinks that this is just a "British" thing...I will mention two things.
Watergate (Guess which President tried to cover his own backside and guess who tried to help him?)
Marilyn Monroe's affairs with certain men of high political position. (If JFK, the super-hero President had HIS reputation tarnished by the revelation of his affair with Marilyn whilst he was alive.....)
That's just two examples of hundreds.
So MP's being involved in shady and even illegal machinations...I have no problem with. Not "fantastic" and not "unbelievable", nor "fantasy" nor "fabrication" either.

Accountability? ....
I was 1) in that I accepted, with great reluctance, the evidence that my suspect was probably not 'Jack' and moved on.
Is it possible that the lovely, lovely idea of poor Mary Kelly not meeting such a foul end could cloud a person's judgement about the unlikelihood of her being alive after Nov 9th 1888?
Cue apoplexy ...
No John, it isn't sediment. There isn't even a picture of Mary to see how she looked, which is what usually sways sentimental feelings. I am going on stated time of death and eye-witness testimony. As forming a possibility of her surviving, not guaranteeing it.
But everyone always finds fault with the time of death and claim the witnesses were mistaken as to the person, the day, or the time of day, if not all three. Maybe that is correct. But the fact is that their testimony was reported and recorded. We know what they testified. The police were certain that the body was Mary, so no investigation of their testimony was done.
And the questions always linger, no real answer in sight
