Maybe they could clear out some of them ruddy books while they're at it, cluttering the place up.

One of the departments I lead at work is a library(so should really have thought of using one without prompting) - the demand for physical books and physical visits is on an increasingly downward trend - remote digital requests are on the increase and the professional services of Librarians is also increasing - we are certainly re-imagining the role of the Library and what it might look like in the future.

I should add it is an academic library mostly used by students, researchers and professors so our experience may not be the same as a public library. Also, we do not have the added pressure of relying on the public purse. But there are a number of parallels.
