Monty's isn't the only book they do this with and yes Highway robbery to charge more, or even the same, for an electronic version as the paper, the costs must be dramatically less, no paper, no printing, no distribution to pay for and no share going to the retailer.

Used hardcover igher than new!

I've just been on UK's Amazon site and noticed that a new hardcover sells at £16.59 while used versions starts at £19.88. Probably JTR is selling back his own copy with blood stains on each page resulting in an increased market value. LOL.

Just began reading the ebook version and really enjoy it.

I often come across that, someone trying to sell something 2nd hand for more than the new one costs. Makes you wonder, unless it is an antique or something no longer available.

I just got to tell you how much I love this book. I'm currently editing my JTR novel while reading 'Capturing Jack the Ripper' and keep referring to its content when it comes to obtaining accurate descriptions of the everyday life of the East End police. Just having the appropriate vocabulary is amazing.

Neil, I just pulled your book out of the "To Be Read" pile where it has languished since my Amazon pre-order was filled. I'm only 18 pages into it but just want to say "Well done!" The amount of information you put per page simply on the history of law enforcement in England is amazing and I strongly suspect that the meat of the book, the JtR chapters, will be even more so.

By the way, if you ever get tired of JtR, vignettes, novels or biographies of some of the tythingmen, thief takers or receivers will find one interested reader at least!

A quick question concerning John Harriot. You gave his title as Seaman Captain but what exactly is a "Seaman Captain"?
