I just saw Paul's posting above...and am baffled...I thought the publication date wasn't until the end of the month? (Unless it's a review copy of course)...

Perhaps he can tip us off on the Sussex connection...unless that's procedurally dodgy of course...

    All the best

    Dave

      Hi Dave,
No, it's not a review copy, but bought and paid for! The mass of data in there is overwhelming, so I am not sure how quickly I could identify the places. I can't wait to see Neil Sheden's take on it, or Debs'.

I was going to shop the sales instead but mention of new MJK info tempted me to buy this book. I'm pretty sure that Neal Shelden has covered everything I'd ever want to know about the lives of the other canonical victims in his book (which isn't indexed so I can't look up a Sussex mention, Dave).
Hopefully the author's new info on MJK is included in the book? I'm worried it isn't now after reading there are plans to publish a separate book on MJK by the author.

I didn't notice anything new about Mary Kelly, Debs, or, indeed, much about her at all, and I am not sure whether the book contains any entirely unknown genealogical information either, although I'm sure it must do. It's a very densely presented book, very specialist.

              Budget

              Hi Paul, Debs

Ah well...for me it'll have to wait for payday (mid month) as I somewhat overspent over Christmas...the upside is that perhaps by then there'll be more solid info about the book, although it sounds from what Paul is saying that it's a good solid affair.

                Hi Dave,
The book is a tough call because it is a collection of genealogical data culled manly from the census and like sources tracing the victims descent from grandparents and including close collateral lines, so it's dry as dust but essential if you're interested in that stuff. Assuming it's all accurate, of course, which is why I'd like to see the opinion of someone like Neil, whose immersed in that stuff. To me it's very specialist, not of interest to most students of the case, but absolutely must have if the genealogical data interests. Pending better informed opinion, and time to make a closer personal examination, I'd say it it is a very solid start to the New Year's Ripper books, which promises us Marriott's Jack the Ripper - The Secret Police Files in March, on which I shall not speak, Peter Thurgood's Abberline: The Man Who Hunted Jack the Ripper in April, which must show an improvement on the self-published edition if it is to beat Mei Trow's biog of Abberline. Then in May comes a fully updated and revised The Complete Jack the Ripper from Donald Rumbelow, with a new publisher. This is potentially the highspot of Ripperological 2013 and certainly the book I am most looking forward to of the books announced so far. Then we're back to the victims again with the Whitechapel Society's Jack the Ripper - The Victims. Blood Lines, pending the caveats, looks up there as a book to fork out for, albeit it's very, very specialised.

Thanks for that Paul...I look forward with interest for some feedback from Neil

One of the books I'm looking forward to is Helena's tome on Chapman, which I think is due to be published sometime in March...
