Whilst doing my regular trawl of Abebooks, Amazon etc I came across this, which purports to be a genealogical study of the five canonical victims:-

You are right - some on Mary Jane Kelly but mostly the other four. I have followed the accepted story (Ireland, Wales, West End, France, East End) for Mary Jane.

Mary Jane Kelly deserves a book in her own right and I think I will have some interesting new things to publish towards the end of this year.

The possibility of extra information turning up regarding MJK sounds interesting...not meaning to sound negative, (far from it!), but in the light of the extensive research on MJK already undertaken by Chris Scott, Debra Arif and others, do you think there's much chance of fresh info coming to light?

Dave, I suspect that MJK's history has been thoroughly researched by amateur and professional researchers since the year dot. It's unfair to mention any one person as having 'had a go' IMHO. A lot of respected researchers have invested time and money looking into MJK's background long before I became interested and will continue to do so long after I'm fed up no doubt!
...unless of course Tony has cracked it once and for all! Although someone else on JTR forums is telling me they have a missing MJK too, and they genuinely do..
Maybe this is the year someone will find her. I always imagined she would be found by accident.

I only get fed up for a little while when a promising new resource or database is scoured and yields nothing.

Speaking of which, Findmypast has updated their WO series for anyone interested in continuing the search for 'Jonto'. The records now include soldiers with deferred pensions and also dismissal records. There's a couple of different Kellys on there now.

Interesting link, Dave. Just looking at the Amazon blurb, I get that 'Staffordshire' relates to Eddowes. Who is relevant to 'the wide marshes of Sussex' and 'the woodlands of the Forest of Dean'?

Mary Brider, a one-time candidate for MJK was born in Westbourne, West Sussex (just...it's nearly Hampshire)...no marshes that way though...

Was one of the constables in the Eddowes case born in Sussex? Ashburnham out Catsfield way springs to mind...was it Harvey? Could be marshes out that way, but it's a bit tenuous...

Tried a Casebook search on Sussex, but it throws up so many "false buzzes"...

As you say, unless someone here knows better, we'll just have to wait for the book...if someone has Neil Shelden's book on the victims on the other hand maybe it'd give a clue ... (but copies are apparently like hen's teeth)....
