Hi Victoria,
I really appreciated your post. If 'admin' applied the same principles to everyone on this site as they do to Steve then certain other people would have been banned long ago.

I'm really incensed at Steve being banned. I thought that freedom of speech and a willingness to listen to other people's points of view (even if one strongly disagreed) was part and parcel of life today in our countries. I find it so difficult to believe the extent to which closed minds seem to govern this site.

I've written this not only for you Victoria, but for Steve and other members of this site interested in fairness (whom I believe are in the majority).

I like being 64 years old. I seem to be getting braver!

I've just been listening to and watching your Beatles link. As a teenager I can remember my bedroom walls (and bedroom door for lack of space) being covered in pictures of the Beatles. The link brought back many happy memories of them when they first started to become popular. One memory in particular is our class Christmas party and playing 'Twist and Shout' over and over again (Christmas 1962). At the time I thought it was the sexiest song I'd ever heard! So - 'thanks for the memory'!

Previous to going to the Beatles link I read through all of the pages of 'Fame and Infamy' for the first time. It struck me that the fact that Steve has been banned from the site and that many comments have been made with regard to his book being so badly written, obviously untrue, wishful thinking, etc., etc., has meant that more people have been unable to resist buying the book. Forbidden fruit is always very desirable!

Oooh you were lucky Carol ..
as a teenager I was not allowed to put my Beatle pics on the wall ..
to be seen dreaming over those long haired boys ..
Even though my mother liked them herself ..

And now to make up for that 'missed experience' ..I recently bought
a pile of old black and white photos of The Beatles, plus a couple of more modern ones of Ringo and Paul.
I intend to make a large wall collage with some of my old record covers.
I have a large tiled double room/garage in my back garden, with an old jukebox ..so should look good as the backdrop.

And yes, what do they say, 'any publicity is good publicity' ..
But seriously, I feel some of the comments have been unnecessary
and hurtful.

Your new Beatles project sounds great. Nothing like making up for lost time! My mother also liked the Beatles and whenever I played my records (even other groups') and we were alone in the house she would ask me to keep my bedroom door open so that she could hear them too!

I've had a thought about Steve's mention in his book of his 'meeting' with Paul Feldman and that Feldman spoke with an educated English voice. Caz says that he spoke like Delboy. I can understand this as I come from a town in Kent (Chatham) where people either speak as Delboy or speak the Queen's English without an accent. It is very easy for me to speak like Delboy, although my normal speech is 'the Queen's English'. During my school years we had 'Speech Training' every week and woe betide us if we strayed away from 'the Queen's English' at school (and sometimes at home!). Feldman, if I understand correctly, was a Londoner, and if he spoke 'Delboy' normally, but was doing his utmost as a young man to make a success of himself then he would have had to speak 'the Queen's English' if he wanted to get on. This was especially so in those days and even is so nowadays to some extent, even though some entrepreneurs have been successful with a watered-down 'Delboy' accent (Alan Sugar comes to mind). I can really understand a young Feldman speaking 'the Queen's English' on a visit to Australia on business. As a Londoner he would have been able to speak both without any problem. Both 'accents' would have been around him all his life. The reason why we have two distinct ways of speaking in Chatham is because in the mid-1800s many East End families moved to Chatham to work in the then rapidly growing Dockyard.

It's me again. Just wanted to say that I agree with you that many of the comments have been unnecessary and hurtful.

Also, perhaps it is time that I say what I think about 'Fame or Infamy'. It is, in my opinion, well-written in a flowing style that encourages the reader to want to know more. No-one should judge the book until they have read it and I certainly consider there is much food for thought. I'm going to read it again soon to check if I missed a good 'clue' the first time!

I'll regret this, but I reckon the "clue", as it were, is pretty obvious. You don't even have to start on the main body of the text to pick the "clue" up.

I didn't realise that you were English, I thought you were an
exotic Swede! But I guess being married to one and living in Sweden,
half makes you one.

As for Steves' comment in his book as to Feldmans' 'educated English voice'...

I'm not trying to speak for him, or make any excuses .. but it could just
be the simplistic view of a young man, (young man ..being Steve) who knows no different.
I only say this from my own viewpoint when much younger .. I thought any
English accent was 'posh' .. even common old east end, cockney accents.
It wasn't until years later that I could see how opposite and mistaken my views were.

And your explanation of Feldman, most likely being able to speak both ways is very
interesting and logical. If you think of it most of us speak a bit differently to suit different occassions.
My father often commented as he walked by, and I was on the phone ..'oh you have got your posh voice on ..it must be work'.

In my humble opinion I also like the writing style, it is simple and natural
and suits the story.
Steve has the ability to write in many styles, everything is not churned out the same,
there is depth and complexity in some of his writings.

In my humble opinion I also like the writing style, it is simple and natural
and suits the story.

But there's nothing simple or natural about the 'story' itself. For a start there have been several stories - not just the one - and they are not compatible with one another. The first story is nothing like the latest, so which story do you accept? They sure as hell can't all be true.

And Carol, I see you have James Maybrick as your favourite suspect, which also isn't remotely compatible with Steve's tales of Feldy's convoluted forgery scheme.

Some people are being teased around here, and teased mightily. But Sir Robert doesn't deserve the blame for any of it. Steve is doing the major teasing, but he can only suceed with those who fail to arm themselves with the facts before entering his web of dreams.

I'm afraid I can't get beyond the wickedness of falsely claiming that three named individuals (who unlike Steve have no way on this earth to defend themselves) faked their own deaths. I don't know about anyone else, but after I'm gone I would not want my loved ones to read anywhere that I faked my own death.

It's sick.
