The point is that the split of the photo really is not the issue here - if it wasn't the split photo, they would have come up with something else as an excuse in ordeer to discredit it.[/QUOTE]

Actually Glen, the only problem I have with the book is the split photo. Other than that it's very good. I didn't purposely buy the book with the intent of insulting it and had Phillip included a smaller complete photo of the original along with the split I wouldn't have complained at all.

    • I'm glad to see the book has been published I've been keeping my eyes peeled for some time (i.e. lurking around but not really posting, I'm the quiet type lol) - looks like I'd need to buy it on amazon.co.uk though, and get it shipped all the way down here, lol. All I really want is to see the Dutfields Yard pic! LOL!

      • Hi!

Just got your book from amazon, and I think it is brilliant, what alot of work you have put in it.

        • I just got the book from WHSmiths, I really like it, the DFY picture is great.

But Iam a bit hacked off about the publishers doing their best to persuade people to buy the book by the simple strategy of lieing to potential purchasers about the books contents.

Where are the "modern comparison shots in colour", that the back of the book promises buyers?

There are no colour shots at all in the book.

            • ah , as I said it is a great book, and modern London colour shots aren't a thing I desire greatly, but it does seem a crappy trick for the publishers to play.

Perhaps if I write to them they will send me the colour pics they owe me?

              • Just received my copy of the book, Really does make you think how many "uncovered Gems" in terms of photos/artefacts are still out there waiting to be discovered in personal collections.

                • Having toiled through this thread............

I yesterday ordered a second edition off Amazon UK. It's already on it's way, good service or what! I can't wait to get it. I speak as nothing more than an avid reader, far, far from being an expert!!

I'll report back once I receive it!!

Just to clarify, Hoxton Creeper; you have a copy of Philip Hutchinson's "The Jack the Ripper Locations" with some of the photos in colour? (These would be the modern day ones presumably...)

This is the first I've heard of a second edition, and after contacting Philip, it's the first he's heard of it too!

If you could clarify that point, it would be much appreciated!

                      All the best

                      • Agreed. The second edition sounds as though it has the format that the first edition was supposed to have. If a second, colour edition is out, I'd love to get one.

                          oh no................!!!

I went on Amazon UK and searched for the first edition, I'd ordered that at £7.59 I think, when the screen offered me a second edition at £12.99. I went for that instead..............having read your post I've re-checked.......

What I actually ordered was a second edition of 'The London of Jack The Ripper - Then & Now' by Phil & Rob Clack................

Just ordered the correct book, sorry chaps for any confusion but you are dealing with a nitwit........

Brilliant service from Amazon again and a superb book!! The two together will make for a fascinating trip to the old family haunts and how they link in with the Ripper sites.

                                Great works both of them!!
