It was always designed to be released on the final day, as Mondays are traditionally the DVD release day in the uk, it happened to be released hours before the final episode.

Still watching ITV tonight, becuase I can, and becuase I am sad!

The series has generated a lot of interest in the original case. My local bookshop had sold out of it's stock of 'Ripper' books.

I'm really looking forward to tonight's finale! Not sure who I think the killer is but I did, initially, think it may have been the young, curly-haired policeman. It has to be someone who knows Phil Davies' address unless he did it and sent the kidney to himself.... I'll stop there because I'm confusing myself!

yes I also suspected the young policeman - he was the only one who seemed interested in helping and as we all know serial killers are at their base level ego-maniacs.

Ah! so Martin Fido was right all along, twas David Cohen. I bet your all feeling a little foolish. even the nasty old bugger that tried to ruin the program by emailing me the result before the program started.

But then who did drown themselves? Must have been Druitt.

Well I thought it was all great fun. I was laughing out loud in the first half hour with the Kosminski and chapman referances..

I think the creators did themselves proud. Certainly loads of fun for all us ripper buffs...

And the board game...fame at last Adam can I have your autograph...

Might I refer you all to my post on this thread on page 12 where I state "I agree on the hospital possibility. The hospital scene when the D.I asks to speak to "Dr.Philips" and the lady says "Are you sure?" - why mention his name if he was not to be brought into the story? My thoughts veer towards the so-far unseen Dr.Philips being the Jack copycat. Time shall tell."

I remember thinking at the time that the nurse they spoke to was hovered upon by the camera long enough to suggest she would be brought into the show more - and of course the hospital connection/doctor as a few of us picked up on - presumably "Dr.Philips" was another false name - so Dr.Cohen was the perpetrator - how would medical experts not recognise a false beard/eyebrows? And didnt they find him and the girl at "his address" - even though it was obviously her house ala "Where is your bathroom?" - and was Hutchinson the killers favourite suspect? Just coincidence he ended up like Druitt?

Intersting conversation about Hutchinson and his description of the supposed man he saw - I always thought the same thing - such a detailed description that its hard to believe.......

A second series????

Great series. I've always thought Hutchinson a pretty likely suspect myself as anyone who knows Whitechapel as well as I do (I live there) knows even now its a difficult place to navigate around so it must have been even worse back then.

I loved the way they satirised us, the way that the tour guide says "Murder isn't entertainment!" and quits, and the whole thing about 'murder porn', started me thinking... maybe the writers are right about us!! They really tore into us... if you'll excuse the pun. But fair enough.

They leave an ending in which there is a possibility to bring the series back for a second go. They could in theory have a series set in Whitechapel where Penry - Jones and Phil Davis solve all kind of crimes in the area... other serial killers etc. It got great ratings, so i'm sure the producers might come back for a second go!

Another idea is for a series about the tour guide going around solving old mysteries all over the country from Victorian times a la Nightwatch. He was a great character.

If you are reading this writers/ producers... pleeeeeaaaaassseee give us another series

Yes the board game is real. Actually Jeremy Beadle suggested using the game with Jakes models to do a 'Virtaual Game' ,which I still think is a great idea...

I will ignore the Ripper porn comments as I have done so on the murder Porn Thread, given that I am probably the only person hear who makes or at least has made, his living from reconstructing murders. Pure art.

But yes I agree it is fun to have fun made of ones-self

It was released in 2003.
