    Speculate?

Are you inviting me to speculate??? We have no accurate description of where the 'pool of blood' had formed, but it was presumably around the upper half of her body - where the wounds were. The killer did not necessarily step in the blood and we have no report of any footprints being found at the scene. Certainly we know from Reid's report that 'there was no blood on the stairs leading to the landing.'

In the case of all the murders the killer does seem to have been able to avoid enough blood not to bring attention to himself so I am guessing he would have been carefull not to tread it in.

Ok. Thanks, Stewart. I had assumed that there would have been blood on the ground and that her killer stepped in it and thus left prints.

                  Hello Stewart, Kate,

                  Re silly...

Now why does the picture of John Cleese's Headmaster from the film "Clockwise" spring to mind?

                  best wishes

Excellent film!! There should be a Rowan Atkinson style register of Ripperologists. Imagine,

                    Begg,
                    Clack,
                    Fido,

According to the Observer Dr. Killeen (at the inquest) noted that “there was a deal of blood between the legs, which were separated.”

Also... as far as I can tell, the time of Tabram's death was sometime between 2 AM and 3:30 AM. Killeen estimated that the woman had been dead for about 3 hours when he arrived at 5:30, but this clearly might not be accurate... hence the appearance of a soldier at George Yard at 2AM may or may not be related to the murder, depending on how accurate Killeen's estimate was.

I have to addmit that I can't see Martha being so popular that she found someone else after 30 mins.

Just a little follow up point...

Let's say Killeen was off by just a half hour, and Tabram was actually murdered around 3 AM. This is entirely plausible. If this was this case, how relevant is the soldier who was seen waiting for a friend at around 2 AM?

I would argue... not so much. An hour is quite a long time.

I guess the issue is how long would he have decided to wait for the mate!
