People did call out "oh murder" and suchlike.

It's not as though we're being asked to believe Kelly cried "Murder! Murder most foul!" That would be a bit hard to swallow.

      common

Hello Robert. Quite. The phrase itself was rather common--just as the ladies indicated.

      Cheers.

          right

Hello Robert. Yes, frequently. Or, to attract attention and assistance--possibly to deter someone from doing something or simply to have them go away.

          Cheers.

She should have cried "Redmuuuuur" like Danny in The Shining.

              redrum

              Hello David. "Redrum" perhaps?

Of course, not to be confused with "Red Room" (AKA, "Harmony in Red"). That's Matisse.

              Cheers.

Nowadays it would be "Help! Help! I'm being offended."

                  Stop, thief!

                  Hello Robert. Indeed.

I recall a time when, if one were suspected of making off with someone's property, the cry, "Stop, thief" would be automatic.

                  Not quite so common today.

                  Cheers.

No, it's been superseded by "Stop, victim of capitalism!"

                        Hi.
We have to possibilities if believing the cry heard was from MJK.
A] Her last few seconds of life
B] Suddenly awakening from a bad dream.
The latter has to be the choice taking a whole load of factors into consideration.
Praters actual account at the inquest.[ describing the cry]
Lottie's quote to Kit Watkins some three years later
Maurice Lewis quotes to the press
                        Caroline Maxwell's sighting.
Lets put this into perspective, If you or I are having a bad dream/nightmare, it is entirely possible that you could suddenly awake and shout out your fears, that is a common practise,
And in the case of MJK, and if we take Lottie's version of Kelly's dream on board, we could well have a case Mary awakening shouting out 'Oh ,Murder' .
It make's perfect sense to me.
                        Regards Richard.

                          Like a premonition you mean?
I wonder how many murdered women dreamt about it before hand.
                          Regards, Jon S.

I've always assumed it was a passerby who didn't want to get involved with the police. I don't see how it could have been Kelly. If you're being murdered, you'd hardly have the presence of mind to cry out, "Oh, murder!" Wouldn't you be more likely to say, "Help," or merely emit a wordless scream???
