  • Corey,
Obviously I read the entire available text of the book (apart of about 100 pages not available on GoogleBooks), including the index and the lit references, as mentioned in my post discussing the book. I simply said that there is no new information not already available on casebook (both as documents or ideas in the discussions). This has nothing to do with Dave Yost being a “wonderful author“. We're not discussing the author's prose, but the “enough new theories to keep us busy for a while“ mentioned by The Grave Maurice. Important research pertaining to Berner Street is ongoing, still almost in its initial stages. Give it 2 years, and there will be enough new results “to keep us busy for a while“.
    Best regards,
    Maria

    • Maria, I want to apologize ahead of time, as I am going to be blunt,

I suppose you had read it in almost an hour, a whole book?

This has to do with your increasingly annoying posts. Many of them have little merit and discuss pointless things. Instead of making a new thread for your ideas, you choose to hijack others.

I know of the "important" research that Lynn and Debra are doing, and I appluad their efforts. Yet, there is plenty to discuss, and Daves book most likely lists them.

If you, and others, want to discuss research, yet refuse to give it out, then stop talking about it. We know they are researching, and we know Tom is writing a book on Le' Grand, and we know of Lynn's theories, yet there are appropriate threads at which to discuss such things.
      Washington Irving:

"To a homeless man, who has no spot on this wide world which he can truly call his own, there is a momentary feeling of something like independence and territorial consequence, when, after a weary day's travel, he kicks off his boots, thrusts his feet into slippers, and stretches himself before an inn fire. Let the world without go as it may; let kingdoms rise and fall, so long as he has the wherewithal to pay his bills, he is, for the time being, the very monarch of all he surveys. The arm chair in his throne; the poker his sceptre, and the little parlour of some twelve feet square, his undisputed empire. "

      • HA! Thanks Maria, I hope he likes the idea, I shall call it a day if not.
I confess that altruistic and cynically selfish talk seem to me about equally unreal. With all humility, I think 'whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might,' infinitely more important than the vain attempt to love one's neighbour as one's self. If you want to hit a bird on the wing you must have all your will in focus, you must not be thinking about yourself, and equally, you must not be thinking about your neighbour; you must be living with your eye on that bird. Every achievement is a bird on the wing.

Corey, let's not continue this discussion. In a couple of years you'll be able to read an entire book in an hour too, especially if you're familiar with the subject. A few years (or decades) in college and research does this to you. And never underestimate the importance of indexes for figuring out the thematic percentage of a book and what sources are discussed in there. You'll figure it all out in due time. I promise.

            To everyone,

I will bow out of this discussion for now, sorry for the disturbance.

Hey Sleek, I'll call it a night, especially with the vibe and all. ;-) Personally I'm one of those who believe that Stride was an “interrupted“ crime, and mostly due to the poney, not to Diemshitz, but I'll be happy to read your thoughts and a future article on an intended double kill.

No Corey, it's not intended as an insult. You're not supposed to be able to read an entire book in 1 hour at 17. It comes later on.

Goodnight Maria, this is too much for my 17 year old brain to handle

                  • Corey,
Chill. It's pretty clear that I'm referring to experience and training here, not “brainpower“. OK, if you wish me to go to schoolyard level, then ASK me about the content of the book in question, and see if I've read the entire thing or not.
                    Best regards,
                    Maria

                      That's news to me, Maria.

                      • Frankly I don't care if you read it or not, what got to me was you pretty much said it had little worth, when you offer nothing of worth to ripperology as of yet( at least that I have seen, publication wise, not saying I have either by the way).

I hadn't read the book yet, so asking you the contents would be redundant. Also, I don't wish to argue with you, I just wanted my views seen, as you seemed to ignore my, comparitively polite PMs.

Like I said, have a good night Maria

A thousand apologies for mentioning you like this, Debra, I shouldn't have, really. I was referring to the socialist pamphlets you were going through, but I know it's not your most important point of research right now. There's something I want to try at the Marlborough Courts in about 2 weeks about which I'd like to ask your opinion, but it has time. Plus I'd like to ask your opinion about something pertaining to Cavendish Bentink and his stepmother, but this has TONS of time. Many-many apologies for mentioning these here.

                          • Tom:

How many times do I need to ask you for your sources and evidence for Mrs. Mortimer's own words "almost the entire time" being, in fact, a ten minute gap which just happened to conveniently squeeze in between everybody elses testimony? I have been asking repeatedly for the sources on this since before the article was even published, and i'm still yet to see any.

As far as the vast majority of proof goes, and certainly everything viable that I am aware of, Mortimer's claim was that she was at her door between 12.30 and 1, and only saw Goldstein during that time - in which case, no matter how many excuses you want to make or how many facts you want to twist, her statements simply don't fit in with the known facts.

                            Cheers,
                            Adam.

Corey, I'm the first to admit I'm a bit severe that way, but I happen to firmly believe that the point of publishing an article or book is to bring forward new information acquired through research and/or the discussion of new ideas and interpretations brought forward by the author. I've never published anything that was not both in my own field. Actually, I'd rather die that do this.
You can read almost the entire David Yost book in the link posted in my post #793. In 2 instances there are about 20 pages unavailable, and in another one another 50 pages missing. Bear in mind that on amazon and on GoogleBooks availability changes from day to day, so it can be that one day you might have even the entire book available, so it's totally worth it to re-visit the link.
As for not having yet offered nothing to Ripperology (duh), I'd love to try, in a few weeks, and particularly in the next months. Obviously trying doesn't guarantee finding anything, especially if there isn't anything (having survived) to be found.
As for the (“comparatively polite“) PMs, I'm more for carrying an aggressive discussion out in the open, in front of witnesses, but let's not continue killing this thread, and yes, for the most part due to my untimely, chatty contribution, for which I profusely apologize to all.
                              Best regards,

All I will say is this, so not to continue, as you say, the killing of this thread. One of Spry's rules say if you want to discuss a problem with someone, do so by PM, which is why I PM you, as not to disrupt the thread.
