  • Sox,

They owned it outright. They did not rent out the premises. They were there everyday. Their newspaper was printed in the backyard. Diemschutz lived on the third floor. The outside of the building was plastered with their propaganda and the big sign above their door read 'INTERNATIONAL WORKING MEN'S EDUCATIONAL SOCIETY'. It was not a social club, it was a socialists club. Very different.
These men were an offshoot of the Socialist League. They formed their group in 1884 and purchased 40 Berner Street in 1885. For the next nine years it was theirs outright. They didn't occassionally rent it.

    Yours truly,

    Tom Wescott

Hiya Tom, just to clarify, this statement.....

The Juwes are the men That Will not be Blamed for nothing.

.....has in it no reference to murder, Liz Stride, Kate Eddowes, prostitues or the Whitechapel Killer. That really is not my interpretation of anything Tom, that is just a fact. Take away the piece of apron found under it, and that piece of Graffiti has no relevance to the Whitechapel murders at all.

Good grief. Tom I did not say they rented it, and I am well aware of who owned it, and it WAS used for social events like dances & plays. Social events at these clubs helped fund both it's upkeep and the running of the political party/society that the owners were a part of. There were, and still are, clubs like this all over England Tom.

        • I have been rereading the inquest evidence and I would have to say there is nothing that totally screams 'fit' and some evidence that would indicate not

'there were no recent external skin injuries', nobody saw any sputum or a froth around her mouth and if she had been shaking violently you would have expected the cachous to go all over the place however I can only stress that this is based on my own very narrow experience of living with someone who suffers from epilipsy and may by no means be atypical.

          • Hi Sox,

You're right, which would probably be why the Ripper put the apron piece under it. To qualify the message, which in turn became jumbled by the police, who should have photographed it, but didn't.

            • Hi Sox,

The nature of the club and the people attending it did not change. It was their members, supporters, hopeful recruits, and members of their sister club (the notorious Autonomy club). Your statement below makes it sound like they were either renting it, or regularly renting it out for purposes other than socialism.

If she had died on a night when the 'Whitechapel Morris Dancers Club' had been using the place, who would the witnesses have been then Tom? It was a social club Tom, and that is a solid fact, and social clubs hire out the hall to anyone who wants to use it.

                • Can I just ask how the club would have been referred to in the common parlance?
My own opinion is that it would have been referred to as 'that Jewish club'

You see, this is where our opinion differs Tom. I have been to many an event at Conservative Clubs Tom, and I am not a Tory. I used to attend the Bold Miners Club on a regular basis, and I have never been down a pit in my life. I went to many many events at Earlstown Socialist Club, and never was a member or even a committed socialist. I used to go to The Catholic Club every week and I'm a Protestant. I used to go for the ale, not the cause, for the after hours boozing, not the politics.

I would question anyone who claimed that the International Working Men's Educational Club was 95% Jewish. In membership maybe, but I would have severe doubts that the place was the strict domain of it's card carrying members.

                    • Sox,

What difference would it make? Tom makes good points, it was 90% or more jewish. It was a JEWISH club owned by a JEW used by JEWS plain and simple.

Your evidence of your participation in clubs doesn't matter. Many things change in 122 years.

"To a homeless man, who has no spot on this wide world which he can truly call his own, there is a momentary feeling of something like independence and territorial consequence, when, after a weary day's travel, he kicks off his boots, thrusts his feet into slippers, and stretches himself before an inn fire. Let the world without go as it may; let kingdoms rise and fall, so long as he has the wherewithal to pay his bills, he is, for the time being, the very monarch of all he surveys. The arm chair in his throne; the poker his sceptre, and the little parlour of some twelve feet square, his undisputed empire. "

And the reverse is also true. This is England, some things have not changed one jot in 122 years.

I know nothing of modern day England. I live in America so I can't say anything about that.

Though, I am sure, that like over here, nothing is perminant.
