    Hi Lynn

    Good point. Maybe Victorian respectability.

But, John Kelly states he is single on his admittance into the Infirmary later that year.

      Hello Jon. Thanks.

      Precisely. Very odd.

That is VERY interesting--but also odd. Why would John be listed after 7 or so years separation?

Good idea. May give that a go.

        Cheers.

Is John Kelly's claim that he had been living with Kate Eddowes for some time corroborated by anyone - or do we just have his word for it?
I won't always agree but I'll try not to be disagreeable.

Alternatively, the Mary Ann Kelly who was living at Flower & Dean Street may have been Eddowes herself, given that she used that name on the night of her death.

            Hello Colin. Thanks.

"Is John Kelly's claim that he had been living with Kate Eddowes for some time corroborated by anyone - or do we just have his word for it?"

            How about Fred Wilkinson?

            Cheers.

              alias

Could be. So it would be a persistent alias.

              Cheers.

                Hi Colin

Freddie Wilkinson of Cooney`s said he`d know them as man and wife for the last seven years.

Done some more digging and the Mary Ann Kelly of 14 Flower and Dean St actually states on admittance to the Infirmary in February 1888 that she is the widow of John Kelly. So it`s probably (surprise surpirise I hear you all say ;-0) not our John Kelly.

Sorry, I can now see Lynn has answered about Wilkinson.

                  Is confusing.

Hello Jon. Interesting find. But now I'm more confused than ever.

                  Cheers.

Sorry Lynn, I`ve clouded the issue.

The Mary Ann Kelly who was the widow of a John Kelly is not anything to do with our John Kelly. She lists herself as a widow in another entry in the Infirmary records. There is a John Kelly who died about 1880 in Whitechapel who could be her husband.

I need to see where I got the seed of an idea that Kelly`s wife was called Mary Ann.

Only thing that comes to mind is that she was so accustomed to not using her real name, it was habit and second nature to use an alias.
