We're using a variety of programs and software to develop the project. 3D modelling apps such as Autodesk (Maya, 3DMax). Various texturing and light mapping software and probably a Torque Powered (or Blitz) engine to put the lot together.

95 percent of the work is taken up by modelling, texturing and light mapping the scenes. Also a lot of time is taken up researching the locations and just as important the locations surrounding the murder sites, as the intention is to develop a proper free-roaming environment of not just the murder sites but a large surrounding area.

    that's the plan!

      Very nice

I've been calling for such a construction for ages

So the viewer will possess a stand-alone "map" that you can load and walk around in? (ie no other software required to view it)

      I'm not familiar with Blitz

Will it be viewable via 1st person perspective or "top-down" type of view?

It will be like an how online games are constructed. You will visit the website, download the files and launcher. Create an account and then launch the program which will drop you into the environment as an avatar (or 1st person view) where you can walk the streets of Victorian London. There will be an on-screen map to show you where you are and a few other things too.

Basically if you've seen the PC game featuring JtR then you can see what we're aiming to achieve. Only this will be a free-roaming environment and not a point-and-click game. We want to achieve the same quality of 3D imagery seem in that game.

Also, depending on how well the result is received we'd like to bring in the expert folk on these forums (and the casebook website) to add improvements and adjustments so the environment is continually assessed and as accurate as it's possible to be.

Edit: almost forgot (in fact i did forget!) we also ant to construct internal environments such as 13 Miller's Court and indeed the other buildings and rooms of Miller's and other locations.

That sounds like a great idea Richard - you rarely see any accuracy within a game

If you would like to pm me with a contact address for yourself, I may have a couple of things you may be interested in seeing

          Best Regards

Just thinking, even though the murders were committed in absolute darkness, he must have known no one would look out the window they were directly beneth. But we already know he was local. Still it all adds up

                      Hello Richard,

If you havent seen it already, the plan of Mitre Square made during the inquest is a big help.

                      Yours truly
                      Washington Irving:

"To a homeless man, who has no spot on this wide world which he can truly call his own, there is a momentary feeling of something like independence and territorial consequence, when, after a weary day's travel, he kicks off his boots, thrusts his feet into slippers, and stretches himself before an inn fire. Let the world without go as it may; let kingdoms rise and fall, so long as he has the wherewithal to pay his bills, he is, for the time being, the very monarch of all he surveys. The arm chair in his throne; the poker his sceptre, and the little parlour of some twelve feet square, his undisputed empire. "
