So, The Police News seems to have put much energy in these illustrations in 1902. Is it a stretch to assume the editors were convince Chapman was JTR?

I do think it is probably a bit of a stretch to think that. This was a sensational murder trial in its own right as two bodies of women who had lived with him immediately before their deaths as his "wife" were exhumed during the lead up to the trial and post mortems revealed they had been poisoned. When Maud Marsh ,his last "wife" died ,a post mortem had revealed she too had been poisoned, making it three in all.So the case rightly caused quite a stir!

He and his wife used to go sailing regularly---him in his peaked cap and blazer! One time when there was a storm they nearly both drowned. Some thought Chapman had seized the opportunity to try and drown his wife.

If he did plan to murder her in a "drowning accident" the picture (if true to the facts) shows some bad planning. There are three people in the boat - who is the third person (a man) who looks seated? Of course maybe George would have made sure two did not make it.
