With apologies to "Old Blue Eyes" and I believe Marvin Hamlisch (but I'm not sure about the composer and lyricist):

[Slash, slash, slashy slash; Slash, slash, slashy slash; Slash, slash, slashy slash; BOO!!!
Slash, slash, slashy slash; Slash, slash, slashy slash; Slash, slash, slashy slash; BOO!!!]

            Start spreading the news.
            I'm coming to stay.
I'm blooding the streets and mews
            of LONDON TOWN!!
I find the peelers, with directions, miss my clues.
So what the hell can I say: how can I lose?!!
I cut up those girls, and write on the walls
            And test Sir Charley's men
            in LONDON TOWN!!
If I can kill whores there,
            I'd kill them anywhere.
            It's all for you, now
            LONDON TOWN!!"

[Walk, don't run - just walk; Walk, don't run - just walk; Walk, don't run - just walk!! AHHH!!!!
No one suspects me!; Like a bird I'm free! To my refuge no squawk!! AHHH!!!]

            These vagabond shoes,
            Will lead them astray!
With red I cover the "Blues",
            O'er LONDON TOWN!!
I love to walk my beat in this city that never sleeps,
Where I am THE "Killer King": and best of all Creeps!!
            Philosophers muse,
            and tell you a way.
But that's no good for me,
            In LONDON TOWN!!
            I shall make "mincemeat there,
            In every yard and square!!
            The thrill is mine
            In LONDON TOWN!!

To be sung by the character "Jack the Knife", I presume!
Well, I give you props on your lyrics, Mayerling, but shudder at the thought of the Ripper in a musical comedy. (Shades of Hitler dancing in the phony musical concocted by "The Producers"!)

will there be a denial of the suggestion as to your id and your suspect?

you obviously missed jack the ripper the musical- london 1970's old music hall style.

Chris George also did a musical, but you would not call it musical comedy, very dark.

In fairness, Pierre, given the title of this thread, to say that you have lost him after finding him is bang on topic.

I did read a bit about the Ripper musical here at Casebook, but wasn't aware of it prior to then. I hear it was awful, and not successful?

Re the dark rock-opera type of thing, that could work, maybe. As long as it glorified the detectives, and not Jack! But since the search has no conclusion, no capture of the villain, it wouldn't be very good dramatically, would it?

the Chris George one, is dark, but certainly not rock-opera. it has Jack as a reporter, and although i have not seen it, the music is quite dramatic. it was only staged in the US i think, but Chris could confirm that.

The London one from the 70's is from the point of the victims really. there is no real character of jack, however hints are given it could be druitt.

I much prefer the London version, probably because it is not as dark.

it ran for 228 performances so not a complete flop.

                              Steve

i know ther has been a japanesse musical, but know nothing other than that

I can not think of any person who would have been a shocking reveal.
                                Maybe, except Abberline himself.

It seems every man alive in 1888 were at some point in history blaimed for the murders.

I wonder if this is my first post?
