  • Stride: Yes, No or God Knows?!

My apologies for yet another poll but I thought that I’d combine a up to date one on whether Stride was a victim of JtR or not with a setting out of the points for and against. I’ll do the second part a like my ‘rating the suspects’ thread in that I’ll update it every so often adding peoples suggestions. I’ll try and go with the consensus so that if someone suggests a point and everyone disagrees strongly it won’t be added.

    I’ll begin with some basics

    Stride was a victim

    1. Victim type (a woman of the lower classes who engaged, at some point, in prostitution.
    2. Throat cutting
    3. Area of the murder
    4. A night that we know that the ripper was active
    5. What are the chances of two women getting their throats cut by different perpetrators on the same night?

    Stride wasn’t a victim

    1. No mutilations
    2. Exposed location
    3. The killer potentially being witness by two people just before the murder

    34
Stride was killed by the ripper
    58.82%
    20
Stride wasn’t killed by the ripper

Stride was a Ripper victim but not killed by the B.S. man.

If the votes for ‘wasn’t a victim’ stay at two then this could be the first time ever that it’s a case of me and Fishy against the rest

Two 'was a victim' from the Geelong area.

Pommy trained horse won the Geelong Cup today.

        Coincidence?

As regards Stride I think she may or may not have been a victim of Jack the Ripper.

I predicted to myself that after we get a significant number of votes that we would see an approximate 70/30 split in favour of ‘was’ a victim.

Are there any suggestions to add to my list of points for and against?
              Regards

                Hi Herlock,

I think there has to be some way to vote indicating you believe Stride was a Ripper victim but not killed by the B.S. man.

Hi Michael! I would like to suggest the "time of death":

                  Eddowes "after 1:30 AM"

Nichols & Kelly "after 3:30 AM"
                  Chapman "after 5:20 AM"

The Eddowes murder took place earlier than the other murders (Nichols, Chapman, Kelly and probably Tabram).

In terms of time the murders of Stride ("after 12:45 AM") & Eddowes ("after 1:30 AM") were very close to each other. But I donīt think that the Stride murder was "planned" by the Ripper.

                    I count Stride a Ripper-victim.

I don’t think the location was very exposed, compared to Eddowes and Nichols - in the open street!
I believe the killer closed at least half the gate, shielding the act.

                      Hi c.d.

I’ll pm Jon Menges and ask if he can add ‘ripper victim but not killed by BSMan.’ Although it will be too late for those that have already voted.

                          Hi SB,

I’ll add ‘earlier ToD’ to my first update. I’ll wait to see if anymore are put forward first.

I’ll give it a couple of weeks then ask if anyone wants to change their vote to the one added then I can quote the poll with an amendment.
