Hi all,
I was talking to someone today about local history (gravesend) I mentioned the early suspect " Piggot" who was arrested in the popeshead. The guy I was talking too didnt know about the incident but went on to tell me that his great gran used to own another nearby pub at the same time, and the rumours that were flying around at the time and very popular with sailors who used the pub was that the ripper had fled to the states.
I wonder if these rumours were quite popular at the time in London as well, I dont recall reading that..Im not sure how much was reported about Tumblety at that time either, and ofcourse that was the first name to come to mind.
