That is reported in several sources and its understandable considering that very recent historical events in the area. I believe it was intentionally used in that manner to give the impression that the assailant was anti Jew. A gentile assailant, off the grounds, ...its a perfect story for the club members and for local Jews in general. I also believe that the GSG references this "positioning" by a person known by Woolf Wess later in the day, and he likely translated for him. The Jews are the men that will not be blamed for nothing..(how I think it read), the underlined suggesting it would not be without reason to blame them.
If this fellow Jack just killed Catherine that night, might he be pissed off over having to share the limelight?
