Hello Simon. Lovely find. Did they find him because he'd had a SPAT with someone? (sorry)
Cheers.

Hi Lynn,
Sorry? I should jolly well think so.
You should be sentenced to a lifetime of believing in Macnaghten or Anderson.
Pretty funny, though.
The Times, Wednesday 14th November 1888—
". . . The description of the murderer given by Hutchinson agrees in every particular with that already furnished by the police and published yesterday morning."
Which witness description might that have been?
Three guesses.
Regards,
SimonNever believe anything until it has been officially denied.

Then, Hutchinson gave a second version directly to the press, which was published on the 14th.

Hi Jon,
We know that, but the LVP newspaper-reading public did not.
In 1888 a reader of The Times might have reasonably concluded that Hutchinson was confirming an earlier and quite independent story.
However . . .

Hi Lynn,
"Age 50 to 55, 5' 8", red face, blotchy as from excessive drinking—large nose—hair (wavy) brown, turning grey, moustache white, no whiskers. Very slight build, dressed—dark clothes, dark overcoat with astrakhan collar and cuffs—hard felt hat. Wears sword scarf pin—has Irish harp and shamrock on locket and watch chain."
I guess General Millen could have been Mr Blotchy and Mr Astrakhan rolled up into one.
Nothing would surprise me.

Two, as far as I know.
Three, if it was this guy.

blotchy
Hello Simon. Well, I'd better keep Blotchy reserved for "Red" Jim McDermott.
At any rate, one usually becomes blotchy from excessive and rich food/drink. And spying paid very well.
Cheers.

blotchiness
Hello Barbara. Well, they can be. But sometimes plump individuals have such a blotchy appearance, due to over consumption.
Cheers.
