Greenfield Street or Black Lion Yard?

Steinkel might mean in polish Kaminsky. Steinkel is of German spelling.

    Stein (Stone) = Kamien
    Steinkel = Kaminsky?

    But I donīt know...

    1891:

Steinkel family, 4 Black Lion Yard, from Klodowa, Barber, Dressmaker, Tailoress
Frankel family, 11 Black Lion Yard, from Klodowa, Tailor / Tailoress

In the street lived Tailors, Capmakers, Bootmaker, Mantle Maker, Refreshment House Keeper, Barber, Grocer and Cigarette Maker ... It sounds more like Cox ...

Aaron Kosminski was born in Klodowa and Hairdresser. Martin Fido found a Nathan Kaminsky (15 Black Lion Yard, 1888)

Worked and lived Aaron Kosminski and Nathan Kaminsky in the same shop (his brother's house)?

A -sky or -ski ending to a name means a resident of.. so Kosminski is someone who comes from Kosmin, which if I recall is a little German town.

An ending of -el or -kel is a diminutive. So Frankel is a diminutive of Frank, Steinkel a diminutive of Stein. It could have derived from a way of differentiating two different families with the same last name, or simply indicate a particularly beloved family.

Thank you for answering. You are right. But you got me wrong, sorry. I come from near the polish border. I also have polish roots.

If youīd ask me: Change your polish Name Kaminsky (or Kaminska) to a german name! I would change it in Steiner, Steinkel or Steinmann etc.

Kaminsky/ Kaminska = Resident of Kamin (Kamien)

        to german:

aus der Steingegend oder aus Stein kommend
(Coming from Stone- Region or from a town called Stone)

So the Steiner Steinmann or Steinkel (depending of German descent)

        Thatīs all what I wanted.
