      Lynn,

names often suffer when they cross borders.

My grandad was called Hien in Vietnam but became...André in France.

My Ethiopian ID some years ago said Boban instead of Vô Vân.

My last wife became Mouna in France, but her real name was Munira.

Therefore, as far as I'm concerned, I would still call him Isenchmid - as in the police reports.

      Amitiés,
      David

        agreed

Hello DVV. Thanks for pointing that out. I tend to agree with you there.

I think the original Swiss would be Isenschmid.

        Cheers.

          I'm so wrong.

Here is some further background information. This is ongoing and there will be more to come.

            Jacob Isenschmid
            Census entries

            Married in 1867

            1871 Census
            4 Baldwin Street, Finsbury
Head: Jacob Isenschmich (sic) aged 28 born Bwerne, Switzerland - Butcher
Wife: Mary Ann Isenschmich aged 30 born Essex

Head: Jacob Isenschmid aged 37 born Switzerland - Journeyman butcher
Wife: Mary Isenschmid aged 41 born Gilston, Essex
            Children:

Kate aged 9 born St Lukes
            Ada aged 6 born Hackney
            Annie aged 3 born Islington
            Minnie aged 1 born Islington

            1891:
            37 Chatham Road, Camberwell
Lodger: Jakok (sic) Isenschmidt aged 48 born Switzerland - Porter
At this stage Isenschmidt was living with the family of a man named George Gayler, a 55 year old butcher. Isenschmidt is listed as single.
The family is listed separately as follows:
            97 Dunscombe Road, Islington
Head: mary Isenschmidt (Married) aged 50 born Eastwick, Essex
            Children:

            1901:
            42 Grovedale Road, Islington
Head: Mary Isenschmid aged 60 (Married) born Eastwick, Essex
            Children:
            Minnie aged 21 - Wholesale chemist's packer
Jessie aged 18 - Domestic servant
            Amy M aged 16 - Dressmaker
            All born in Islington

I have been unable to find Isenschmid in the 1861 census so it looks as though he came to England at some stage between 1861 and 1867.

Three Isenschmid daughters, Annie Edith, Jessie and Minnie Jane were all baptised on the same day, 28 January 1883, at the church of St Jude, Mildmay Grove, Islington. At this date the family's address is given as 52 Kingsbury Road.

Jacob died in 1910 in Colney Hatch.
Mary's death was registered as follows:
            Name: Mary Isenschmid
            Death Registration Month/Year: 1929
            Age at death (estimated): 88
            Registration district: Edmonton
            Inferred County: Middlesex

              more

              Hello Chris. Well done!

I notice that his wife was 4 years older than he. Interesting.

I hope that the other files I've requisitioned will be here soon. Great pity that all his 1888 records have gone missing.

              Cheers.

                Hi Lynn
Just send on the others when they get here and I'll get them done asap:-)

I found the oddest thing in the last post of mine was the 1891 entry. Not only was Jacob in lodgings away from the family but he was listed as unmarried. Mary is listed at her address as married but the head of household.
                Regards
                Chris

                  fear

Hello Chris. I suppose the natural inference is that she left him. I believe she stated, on more than 1 occasion, that she feared him. In fact, she told either Thicke or Abberline that she thought he might murder her.

In one of his records he is threatening to murder those around him, and in the 1887 records he is threatening to kill a neighbour.

I can hardly wait for those additional records. Thanks for working with all this.

                  The best.

                      descendants

                      Hello Chris. More excellent work!

With such a good sized family it makes you wonder if there are still some descendants about.

                      Cheers.
