If any of you are interested in what I ask JTR and what Kevin discovers will have to search for my column online.

I am very disappointed in the JTR fans found here.
I don't think that my responses were "stupid" at all. But since you apparently think that they were, why would I answer any of your questions, if you had posted any in the first place instead of just reaming us all a new one for not immediately following you down the primrose path?

As I stated -- when people have questioned living serial killers in custody about their crimes, these killers do not always tell the truth about why they killed, how many they killed, and so forth. We know this. Likewise, we all know that there are people who, for a myriad of reasons, give false confessions -- sometimes these are convicted killers claiming murders they didn't commit for who knows what reason, sometimes these are people who never killed anyone but who are ill or want attention. What exactly about being dead would make Jack the Ripper, whoever he was, suddenly become deeply honest and forthcoming about his crimes? What about being dead would preclude someone else from claiming to be Jack when they weren't? I happen to believe in ghosts and spirits, but what I do not believe is this notion that when people pass over they all become these perfect, altrustic beings that don't lie or self-aggrandise. I don't buy it.

How would you know that it really was Jack in the first place? There is nothing that people on Casebook can offer you, that "only Jack" would know, so there's no way to place an objective check or balance on that. I'm sure there might be details that only Jack would know, but the fact is that Jack and his victims took those details to the grave with them, or they were in files that are lost to us and whose contents we don't know.

Again, I don't believe that the act of dying renders one universally omniscient, or suddenly gives one a shedload of scruples that one did not have in life. Disagree, call me "stupid", knock yourself out, but it's pretty ridiculous to insult people for not falling all over you, then think they'd ever answer anything you'd ask, relating to your project. Not that you asked anything in your post above.

      Exactly.

Largely, I find, the problem with Jack would be that what he did was illegal, regardless of one's take on the existence or absence of an afterlife.

What I was getting at is, if there really is nothing after death, then there is nothing to contact. So, if one holds that belief (and again, I don't), does one interpret what the channeller tells as their script, their fantasy, their imagination... ? Has to be something along that order if there really is nothing in the beyond. If people like me are wrong, and there is nothing after death, then what are channellers, mediums, psychics, et al, contacting?

It could be the ghost of John Fitzgerald, or some other wannabe who wants their five minutes of fame!
Exactly where I was going with my earlier posts. How does one know, as a channeller, who one is really talking to? And even if one feels that one does (and I accept that the person may know), there will always be the people who disagree, on whatever level, for a variety of reasons.

I may believe in this stuff, but it doesn't mean that I just swallow the tale of everyone who claims to have gifts, or that I believe they just can't possibly be deceived by the entities they contact.

        Hello there,

Please... I am honestly trying to be open about this... so I will put a question to you... that may be rather important BEFORE you contact "Jack".

People have been discussing for 121 years exactly how many victims were by Jack's hand, and how many victims were not. Now, call me sceptical... but ...

WHAT HAPPENS IF WE ARE ALL WRONG, AND THE CANONICAL 5 VICTIMS WERE ALL MURDERED BY 5 DIFFERENT PEOPLE????

In other words... WHICH ONE IS JACK???

After all, the name Jack the Ripper was probably the invention of a newspaper man..

Therefore, you could end up getting 5 spirits all vying for the contact.

Just wondering. Not trying to be clever. I don't know how these things work.

You see, there are a considerable amount of people who attribute these murders, or this series of murders, to more than one person. And it also all depends on whether the Canonical 5 murders are the only ones that "count" when you are contacting one single person...this murderer. Look at the Casebook, many other murders have, over the years, been given to Jack the Ripper. We could in actual fact end up with 15 Jack the Rippers trying to talk with you.

        So what are YOUR parameters?

          afterlife

          Hello K. Your dictum:

"what he did was illegal, regardless of one's take on the existence or absence of an afterlife."

is quite correct. Of course, depending on whom "Jack" was, he may well have gotten away with it. In my view, an unenforced law is no law at all.

Your main point, that there is no one to contact, given there is no afterlife, is also correct. Nor much to fear in this life either (I am thinking here of both Epicurus and Lucretius and their doctrines).

          The best.

I'm afraid the clairvoyant couldn't make it, due to unforeseen circumstances.

I'm also a channeller. I keep flicking through with the remote but nothing grabs my interest. The Devil's Hammer? Is there such a thing used in the building trade? ' Ooh tough job this one. We're gonna have to knock through into the kitchen. Go and get us the Devil's Hammer out the van son'
