      Are you joking?

How did they know it was Jack the Ripper?
"Damn it, Doc! Why did you have to tear up that letter? If only I had more time... Wait a minute, I got all the time I want! I got a time machine!"

        Mort,
Yes,in a way I was joking, but 'Jack the Ripper' was the name of a horse, running at the Cumberland Pen races in Jamaica,on 19 april 1897.It was race 6,and called 'The open pony handicap'.It carried a weight of 7st 4lb.A bit of trivea for those who are interested in all things ripper, and no,I do not know if it won.

Having read about Josef Mengele recently, a sadistic doctor at Auschwitz who was eloquetly penned the 'Angel of Death', I really think it's possible that Jack could've just stopped of his own volition.

Now, Mengele and the Ripper are two completely different beats, and I'm not even sure if the former falls under the serial killer category, but he murdered scores of people and put them through sheer agonies, but as soon as the second world war was over, he packed up, went into hiding and lived a relatively normal life whilst a fugitive for the next 30 decades or so, dying under ordinary conditions (I think it was a stroke or some sh*t).

Perhaps Jack chased whatever dragon was his and got that ultimate high he was after with his final kill (whether that was Eddowes or Kelly) and decided to call it a night after all.

from what we know of fantasy driven offenders it is unlikely. A change of location, incarceration, and the acquisition of a socially viable outlet are far more likely. If the killer was not fantasy driven, stopping is possible, but again more unlikely than the above options. Frequently when we as outside observers see a period of "rest" or "cessation" we are experiencing a phenomena called linkage blindness, and simply do not associate other relevant acts to the killer.
