Montague John Druitt - New Headstone on grave

The grave to the left of Montague Druitt is William Harvey Druitt. I took a separate photo which is below. This would be Montague's elder brother perhaps.

Exactly so. I wasn't aware that Abberline was buried in the same graveyard. It would be interesting to know if his gravestone had also been cleaned.

Although not amazingly clear, it definitely looks like a 4 to me, and not like the '3' shown in the line below.

Thank you indeed. Far clearer. Indeed a 4 it is.
If the stone is a clean up job, then a good job has been done on it. Could be a new stone in the exact same design I suppose.
It is always nice to see clean gravestones, in my opinion.

I may be wrong but it looks like the writting is now cut into the stone (on the new clean white gravestone)

On the old picture it looks like it protrudes out of the stone

The '1' in 1888 looks different too

I think the old way of doing the stones was to insert a black lettering into the pre-cut shape. These letters in time loosen and fall out. The modern method is different, more to do with burning the lettering in, or something like that.

I think it's the same one cleaned up. This website shows similar transformations.

I'm afraid Abberline's grave is in Bournemouth while Druitt's is in Winbourne. Not the same place, is it?
