  • BackYard of Miller's court

Hello everybody: are we (i mean, the whole forum, and specially the great Anciens) completely sure that the famous picture of the demolition of Dorset street represents the back of Miller's Court ? I've seen many colour emphasis, legends and comments, but, i'm still in doubt...

    Hi Gene.
Then step up, give your reason's why you doubt the pictures.
Lets see if someone can put your mind at rest.

    Regards, Jon S.

      Hi Gene,

A Doubting Thomas might ask, [a] is why is the 234 ft. spire of Spitalfields Church not visible in the background, and [b], where have all those trees come from which appear to be running along Commercial Street?

Rest assured that someone will have a suitable answer.

      Regards,

      Simon

        Hi Simon,

I'm happy to be corrected, but aren't the answers:

[a] It's out of shot to the left.
        [b] That's Itchy Park.

        Regards,

        Mark

If you're right, then Spitalfields Church appears to have moved north [out of shot to our left in the photograph] of Itchy Park and, also, Brushfield Street.

            Hi Simon,

Utter, unadulterated poppycock. But I'm sure someone sensible will come along to arbitrate in a minute.

            Regards,

            Mark

              Hi Mark,

              "Utter, unadulterated poppycock"?

              It's hardly my fault if you're geographically-challenged.

I eagerly await the arbitration of someone sensible.

              Regards,

              Simon

                Hi Simon,

Excellent. Then let us hope someone sensible turns up soon.

                Regards,

                Mark

                    Hi Simon,

I don't claim to be sensible, but how does the attached look to you?

In fact I think I've even got the viewpoint too far south of Christ Church!

about my reasons of doubting, there's only one: that picture fits too much with the sketches of MC backyard for being the real place………

(excuse my syntax, gosh, i'm french !)
