Jack the ripper guided tours: money on the back of victims or is it for charities?
O Soapient Conclusion ! You learn something new everyday...
like savon, the French for... soap?! -Monsieur Flynn
I didn't even know they had a word for "soap" in French !!!
The mother of all wisdom, Soapia the Goddess of Wisdom. I guess that would make it philosoapia.
"What our ancestors would really be thinking, if they were alive today, is: "Why is it so dark in here?"" From Pyramids by Sir Terry Pratchett, a British National Treasure.
Its just this sort of insensitivity you're displaying towards your fellow human beings and the French.... thats gonna get you painted with the same brush as that ahole on JTRForums.
Good one,by the way
Gosh...who would that be?

We always have been, we are, and I hope that we always shall be detested in France -

It simply depends what part of France you go to. Actually many English and French people universally unit in their abhorance of the Welsh historically they have always been trouble and best left to their own devices.
As for Tour Guides I guess their is good and bad (like nationalities)
In my experience I would recommend Richard Jones tours.
Richard has been working in the field longer than anybody I know and has a genuine passion for the subject.
Don't let his inocent school boy charms fool you..he knows more about this subject than almost anyone else I know..and his tour would be cheep at twice the price.
Thank God some of us closet socialists still see knowledge as human kinds most valuable resource.

I think you'll find that it's because the Welsh hold nature, poetry and music in high esteem, and find it preferable to invading other countries and exploiting the natives.
Howard, I find Lionels posts to be a rather silly (like everyone else no doubt) but I simply choose to ignore him.
You, on the other hand, have chosen to respond in a 'suspiciously' derogatory fashion.
Unfortunately,Lionel, we English speaking people

Macnaghten was ze Ripper
The attempt at sarcasm in this post is ugly.
After banging my head into the side of a brick wall 35 times,I understand what you are saying,Lionel. Sorry for the delay in responding.
I gotta tell ya,Lionel...after reading your other post about Macnaghten and Lusk being lovers and wanting to see them kill girls..because you're gay...By God, I am ready to be a card carrying Socialist ! Thats what I want to see more of in Ripper books ! Socialist themes.
This is the icing for me!
How about a French Jack The Ripper...who goes around the streets at night...prowling for prostitutes...and attacking them with a bar of soap ? Soap is sort of like a forbidden thing in France, is it not ?
That's racist Howard! Is it not?
I would expect an experienced member of these boards (like yourself Howard) to set a better example.
* You have been sarcastic towards him in your comments.
* You have mocked his obvious hinderence of the English language by mimicking this 'frenchness'.
* You have reiterated the fact that this person is gay (even though it has no relevence tho this particular thread). NOTE: Lionel has stated that he is gay in his profile. Howard has resonated this fact on this thread in some lame attempt to 'ammuse' people. (Stinks of homophobia to me....)
* You have made a stereotypical-racist comment. ("Soap is sort of forbidden in France, is it not? = French people don't wash/are unhygienic or dirty (or thereabouts)
Howard, I find these comments EXTREMELY offensive!!
sincerely
Nicole

Racism, by its simplest definition, is the belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race. According to the United Nations conventions, there is no distinction between the term racial discrimination and ethnic discrimination. A bigot is a prejudiced person who is intolerant of any opinions differing from their own or intolerant of people of different ethnicity, race, or class. Ethnicity and race are related concepts in that both are usually defined in terms of shared genealogy.
It is ugly, no doubt.

Come now! Arthur wasn't exactly a peace lover, and I do remember the Welsh chorus members in Zulu. And, let us not forget the 1st and 2nd Glamorgan Battalions. Rugby, Wales' most important sport, is not unrelated to violent invasions, as well. Though... the English started it all, didn't they?
If it hadn’t had been of those French Sausage eaters turning and running, Owain Gly Dwr, 1401, would have beaten the English who were to cowardly to fight him.
Anyone who knows anything about history knows that the Welsh are British, the English are French and the French are German.
As for the French not being a race, of course they are, the Franks originated for Belgium and were originally Germanic in origin. Charlemagne being the greatest of their leaders.
However as most of Europe was conquered by Rome who as a culture assimilated, there are in fact almost no pure blooded races in Europe. The Arian race, fore instance, being a Myth. I believe that the Basque’s have the best claim as original inhabitance.
A bit of modern banter has more to do with which football team you support than any real basis for grievance in Europe about race. Neither the Saxons or the Normans were British after all.

Ahh, but nature, poetry and music are brutal things, no? Mind you, if my recent trip back to the Valleys was anything to go by, most of this is currently represented in taking a pee up a car, yelling foul rhymes, and singing--sorry, 'singing' god knows what whilst waiting for Dai the Taxi and watching someone's girlfriend bash him with her silver stilettos.
Tour guides=how else can one quickly get an overview of an unfamiliar place from someone who knows more about it than oneself? So, a guided tour round Rome feeds on the blood of munched Christians, and a similar jaunt in Petra is disrespectful to some sacrificed Nabateans? Sorry, but that's just merde.
