How many Blue Coat Boy's were there?...'Cos I'm sure I remember going into a large one on a corner,in what I thought of as Bishopsgate in the mid-'70's.???

        Hi Carol,

Wow, shades of Miller's Ct! I'm surprised they had that much stuff to evict.

I spent a long time, the other night, looking over that link. It's very interesting. Includes other tenements and old pubs, etc.

        Best,

        Cel

Quite a few I shouldn't wonder. I've got photos of two Bricklayers Arms but none of the relevant one. This Blue Coat Boy was just North of Spital Square on the Eastern side of Norton Folgate.

At least 3 in Jack's day, maybe 4:

Blue Coat Boy, Edwards Richard, 5 Norton folgate
Blue Coat Boy, Levis Rebecca, 42 Lant st, Borough
Blue Coat Boy, Scott Thomas, 1 City road

From The London 1899 Public House & Publican Directory:

Blue Coat Boy, John Henry Gage, 5 Norton Folgate NE
Blue Coat Boy, Alfred Holder, 415 City Road EC
Blue Coat Boy, William James Turner, 32 Dorset Street, Spitalfields E

            Cheers,

              The Market Trader, Middlesex Street

I'm afraid I don't have a picture, but I found out today that this spring, the Market Trader pub on the corner with Petticoat Lane and New Goulston Street is changing its name back to the Bell!!

Check out 'The Bell' on the wiki pages and you'll find a link to their 'in progress' website.

                That's good news John.
Here's 'The Bell' as the 'The Bell' 1930s, and as 'The Market Trader' 2007

Nice pictures Rob, love all the wagons lined up with hay, looks like some sort of starting line in a crazy race! Really atmospheric stuff!
                      Regards Mike

It was just before the car on the left.
