Time for a pint. In pubs that aren't there any more.
I never knew about this one - the Grey Eagle on the corner of Grey Eagle Street and Quaker Street:
And two more pictures from 1970 when the brewery was being extended.
And the late lamented Roebuck on the corner of Durward Street, 1993. This is probably the best image I've seen of it. Apart from the memories in my head...la di da....

Re The Grey Eagle. The painting above the door. Wasnt that reclaimed by someone? I swear I have read somewhere that it was rescued.

The area were Spiders is situated used to be a part of the "Groves" and was back to back mills, with small slums crammed in between.
It was an awful place to live with infant mortality very high and poor sanitation.
The mills have all since gone with only a couple of the older building still standing.
I have a good friend who is creating a massive online photo archive of the area, but i can't find it!!!Regards Mike
