  • Thanks, Rob. The leak came completely by accident - and not any deliberate attempt to pass it on - by one of the people who knew who had misunderstood that the photo was not to be discussed and just thought it was not to be posted. They too approached Stephen to have their post removed as soon as they realised this wasn't the case.

    • Having read through the last few posts, one hopes people have stopped attacking Philip, and his find.

At last, some decency returns to the thread.Phil, you must be exhausted and saddened, too.

Let's hope the madness ends here...and over a photo we should all,as Ripperologists,be heralding.

        • Rob,

Thanks for confirming that there were people outside the immediate circle who knew about the photo months ago. I hadn't realized that there were actually two posts on the boards about it. I had only seen one.

          • I wonder whether all this tells us something about the Seaside Home ID etc, and the chances of keeping that secret.

            • I do love to flog a dead horse.
This is the photo that I find disturbingly familiar with George's.
              'appy new year.

                • Oh my god AP you are right! I mean except for the different buildings, the different windows, the different doors and the different backgrounds, it's almost exactly entirely the same!

                    Hi Ally

Yes. And thanks for not 'nicking' my wallet when I left it on the bar when I went to get my raffle prize at the Whitechapel Society meeting.

                    Do Americans say 'nicking'?

                    Hi AP

l hesitate to criticise your good self as you were my first friend when I first started on this internet JTR lark and I know you are one handsome dude and one very clever geezer but you are TOTALLY wrong about Philip's picture which I've seen and which shows photographically EXACTLY what is seen on on all the those 1888 drawings. Why are you banging on about this?

                    • Ally, I was merely referring to the fake backgrounds in both photos.
You can buy them at Photoshop.

                      • Hi Stephen,

Yes we Americans say "nicked" but thats when you cut yourself shaving! We are much more likely to say "swiped" when taking something that belongs to someone else!

Because live horses put up too much resistance.

                            Happy New Year to all.

                            • Stephen,

Andy is right that swiped would be the more common usage, but nicked is not unheard of, at least in my part of New England (which is today snowbound), along with plain old stole, snaffled, ripped-off and "@#$%&!! took." But then the use of nicked may be a linguistic vestige of Adam and Eduardo's summer visit to town. ROFL

                              Don.

Nicely put, Tom - and nice to hear from you again. A happy New Year to you, too, sir.
