    Not necessarily. He was CID, not uniform, note the CID men in the front row.

    identification was made in the date of photo, Hutts service records and Police Orders dated of the same period.

    Just out of interest do any similar photographs exist for Bishopsgate?

    I'm trying to see if I can put a face to PC882 Joseph PHIPPS who was stationed there between 1871 and 1891 (and as possibly was late as 1897).

    The photo DJA has put up is one annotated by me based on the City of London order book entry made in 1889, in which some collar numbers were shown.

    The photo is atop Snow Hill station and taken in 1887, presumably for the Jubilee celebrations.

    Indeed it is Hutt. If "Monty" reads this, perhaps he can give more details; he and Rob Clack wrote an article in Ripperologist about him, including that photo, many years ago.
