I was just looking at a copy of the Police Orders for 1889 held at the National Archives.

Roger that, so it'll be a case at looking at every Police Orders, from September 1888 until about September 1891? At an order once a week 156 possible lists of officers. Write them all down, I'd be prepared to do that!! Just imagine the research aid that would be!!!!!! I wonder if there'd be enough to publish in a book?

The NA orders are bound and indexed, but individual names are not listed in that index, only subject matter.

The Metropolitan Police Heritage Centre also hold copies of Police Orders in Weat Brompton, London. If you are nearby you can pop in and ask.

There was a police constable William J Pile in 1891 living at 15 Alwyne Villas, Islington with his wife and son. Aged 24, born Colaton Devon. In 1901 and 1911 he is living at Edmonton.

In 1890 a William Pile, Met Police constable was on his way to his duty at Haslar Hospital, Gosport when he found a body floating in the Haslar moat. Maybe the Met were assisting the local police.

Of course this now beggars the question..... what are you going to do with it?

Is there enough to publish it like J.H.F Kemp, has with his medals book? Are you intending to do so?

How many names are there?

I wonder was there any method or criteria as regards to who the various divisions sent as reinforcements?

I would assume that perhaps those young in service would have been sent?

What about officers who had served there previously and would thus have local knowledge?

I further assume that volunteers would have been used?
